So I read the owners manual front to back and just discovered this evening that if you put USB media in the port with video files on it the car will play them in full screen as long as the parking brake is on. The manual says nothing at all about this feature, but I hope someone makes a brake override module sometime soon to enable playback for passengers on road trips, etc.

 

I'm sure there will be a hack for it. People have been hacking the nav/idrive forever now

 

I wonder if the visual boost will do this as well or just the XL screen

 

You guys know what can play? MKV files play the sound only.

 

Well considering the screen in the R56 plays video, I would guess both the XL and non-XL will in the F56?

MKVs are tricky, because it is a wrapper around other video codecs and audio codecs. Same with avi, just playing an AVI file doesn't ensure all others will work. We'll have to figure out what the full codec support is on it, which can be tough, because there's so many!

 

You know what I put in an avi file and it didn't play but after a couple of minutes of sound only it played in a small letterbox and then another 40 seconds and it jumped to full screen. I will try the mkv file again and give it more time.....
