Okay, most DI turbocharged motors sound like diesels. I actually haven't driven an n/a DI car.

Just curious, is it quite with the hood open, ie, is it just insulation, or is it quiet even with the hood open? I assume we're talking about the current IS?

Oops, I've driven the BRZ, which is n/a and both DI and port injected. It was quiter than our BMW's, but still made the normal HPFP click clack noise.

With that much noise, a sound system would seem to be a complete waste.

Hood open, 2011 model, but the engine is covered with sound deadening material. I owned a Scion FRS and it was pretty noisey as well.

Its like a whistle / suction / induction noise as your put your foot down and then a tshhhh / chirping noise as you come off the loud pedal.

All seems OK, but I am worried that people seem to be suggesting it may not be?
You car still does it? I have F55 MCS and bought it used in March of 2019 and almost positive that my car didn't make that noise but 2 months later, in May I heard it for the first time. When driving I would accelerate to 2 or 3 RPM, then quickly release gas pedal and the engine would make a "loose metal mesh sound" similar to your I guess. The noise doesn't seem to reproduce when I am trying while the car is idle.
I tested few MINI 2019 loaner cars from 2K to 5K miles on them and they all did that sound. It is more pronounced in sport but mid also has but quieter. The latest 2020 MCS loaner didn't do that, but it had only 11 miles.

Did you have any issues from that sound afterwards?
