MINI Text Messages/Emails

I just bought my 2014 (F56) MINI HT S last Saturday and absolutely love it!! I bought the fully loaded package including the Navigation XL and everything is working flawlessly except the office feature to view text messages/emails. I have an iPhone 5 and pairs up to bluetooth fine, but will not poll my text messages. Does anyone have any suggestions or know if this is a known problem or if there is a fix for it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Motor On!!

I do not have an iPhone but rather a Galaxy Note II and have been able to read texts through the connect system (or have it read them to me). I have not tried yet to send one though through the voice commands.

If you look up your phone on the compatibility page it "kinda of" shows what functions will or wont work. For the "SMS display" and "Sending SMS" with an iPhone 5, it is marked cannot be used there .

Based on everything I've seen you can only have your text messages read to you and can not send them. Why I wish there was a way to make the talk button on the steering wheel a button that activates Siri.

I somehow got to Siri once through the voice commands. Not sure how but that would be a way.

That only way that will happen is if you activate Siri thru your phone. The audio will then go thru the car. There just is no way to activate Siri via the car itself unfortunately. I'm sure a simple update to the car could change that but I'm not sure if MINI is willing to do it.

Back when I bought my R56 the dealer told me back then that Mini had a contract for exclusive\advanced functionality with Apple products as this was back when the ipod/iphone was killing the market. It would appear though now that they are working to get Android caught back up since market share wise, it is king. The thing I find amusing looking at the compatibility page is that the only phones that seem to be able to really use most or all of the "office" functions are blackberries.

If I'm not mistaken the only thing you can do with the office section on a iPhone is read text messages and access your calendar. I have both an Android device and iPhone and the iPhone app is light years ahead of the Android version (only available to install on 2 phones that are very outdated at this point). And that's not saying much.

agreed, the app has some clever things but the ios version is leaps ahead of the android one. ultimately though I don't use the app that much any more. The only thing I booted it up for in my R56 was the driving excitement gauges and those are now built into the F56 (and much better at that). I would imagine given some time they are going to get the android one caught up. Too many folks world wide using android now for them not to.

Ah, see I didn't know that those gauges are now built into the car. That was the only thing I saw in the app that looked cool to me. That's good to know. Still waiting for the phone call to let me know the car is there. One more day...

Hey, thanks for the link.

I looked up my phone (Galaxy Note 3). I don't need to text in the car, but I like being able to hear them read. I can always call the sender hands free if needed. I also downloaded the MINI Connected App for my Android. I'll give it a shot this evening in heavy bumper to bumper traffic.

I have both the the 1phone 4s in the cradle/armrest...but recently went over to the android Note 3 (love it) and I'm able to receive texts through office as well as view my calendar... Actually a small closed envelope shows up in the connected screen near the time and bars indicating phone signal strength. I am/was able to send texts thru Siri & iphone. Not with the Note 3.
Emails have never been active up to this point...again I'm in a 2011 Countryman not the new F56...

Me thinks the APPLE thing is the hold back
I can't get the calendar to sync or just show up
It's greyed out under MINI connected
Sure would like the calendar to function
Not really into sending texts/e-mails while driving

But if anyone knows of a trick/secret about getting the iPhone 4s to show the calendar.....please post it here and receive your props!!!!!

You need to have it connected via your lightning cable and make sure you go into the Mini Connected app on your phone and go to the Calendar app under Mini apps (within the Mini Connected app)

I've been into the connected app, but like I said...it's greyed out and can't be selected
I've been able to turn everything else on, Twitter, Facebook, the readers for books and all the web based radio stuff

That used to work in my 2011 R56 but doesn't in my 2015 F55. I'd hold the button down and Siri came on over Bluetooth. Now it doesn't do anything. I have an iPhone 6. Any ideas?

long hold the voice control till you hear the Siri sound - and your audio source has to be on your phone via bluetooth or lightning cable.

I use a ProClip mount that has lightning cable plugged in always and the phone is always connected via Bluetooth. On my 2011, with the same setup, I literally held voice control and Siri came up on Bluetooth as if we were on a phone call; didn't matter if I was on aux input, radio, cd etc. Are you saying I need to select the input before I can connect to Siri in my 2015?

Yeah, I remember someone suggested you hold the voice command button for a longer time to bring up Siri.

This feature works for me, but only for text messages that come in while I'm in the car. Even if I have unread messages before I start the car, it won't show them.

Holding the voice command button down will activate Siri, however, and she will read your messages and allow you to respond by voice. Works very well.

No guys... this does work with iPhone

Text messages from iOS devices are supported with Mini Connected, however the default bluetooth pairing settings does not activate this feature...

To activate your message from your iOS device to your mini, go to settings on your phone > bluetooth > Click the i next to your Mini (under my devices) > Turn on the Show Notifications toggle switch.

Now your text messages will be pushed to your car. If you would like your email pushed as well, you need to setup your email to show within notification center on your iPhone.

Hope that helps!
