To activate your message from your iOS device to your mini, go to settings on your phone > bluetooth > Click the i next to your Mini (under my devices) > Turn on the Show Notifications toggle switch.

Now your text messages will be pushed to your car. If you would like your email pushed as well, you need to setup your email to show within notification center on your iPhone.

Hope that helps!
Yes, thank you! I have been using Siri thru the voice command button to listen and respond to texts (super useful and works great), but did not know I could send the notifications to the vehicle. Will check it out later on my way home from work.

Yes - I think selecting the iphone audio as the source is the only way to get the iPhone (in this case Siri) audio to playback through your speakers. I only use Siri when my audio source is set to my phone, so I don't have too much experience with your use-case.

I always have my iPhone5 connected in the armrest adapter and selected as the music/audio source and my iPhone6 is always connected via Bluetooth when in the vehicle. When I press and hold the voice command button, Siri will come on (from my iPhone6) to receive a command.

SMS Text to voice using Mini Connected

Has anyone been able to have text read through the Mini Connected? I have iPhone 6+ and 2013 Mini Cooper S. I would like a text message read to me while driving. Also has anyone been able to use SIRI funtion on iPhone 6+ using Mini Connected?

Isn't that feature only available on the 2014+ MINIs?

When I first got my 2013 fJCW I was able to read the texts from my iPhone 5 thru the MINI Connected but never the email messages. I took it in for my first service and now it doesn't work anymore. It was a nice feature.

I have an iPhone 6 plus and I there is no 'Show Notifications' toggle switch. The only toggle switch available is 'Sync Contacts'. Is there a step I'm missing?

Try deleting the MINI from your phone ("Forget Device") and deleting your iPhone off the MINI and try re-pairing...

I tried this but still didn't show up the Show Notification option.

Thanks for all the help. I'll have it looked at when I go back to the dealership for the 2nd date program.

Out of curiosity, what headunit do you have? Just the MINI Connected/Visual Boost? With Nav or no? Or do you have the XL?

Have you done the software update yet?

I have Mini Connected/Visual Boost without Nav and not the XL. I've check that website before and it said my software is up to date. I tried it again today and still up to date.

Hell mine won't take the update so my Spotify will not work correctly. MINI told me its a iPhone problem which is BS since it works for most. Told me no fix for me which is crap unpaid for the option dang thing should work.

Hmm...latest iOS? 8.2?

Past that, I'm stumped...

Yes, latest iOS 8.2. I'm not sure if a network is a factor. I have AT&T.

Thanks for the help siriuszero. Your inputs are greatly appreciated.

I'll try this next time I'm out at the car. I do have the notification setting in my BT prefs on the iPhone 6+ and current firmware...

Hey, I did the update and will test the feature tonight.
But here's a general question for the 2015 model savvy members:
If, as I understand it, the majority of the 'Y-cable' functionality for iphone users have been rendered unnecessary, what's the value in having your phone plugged in via USB?
- previously I relied on the Y-cable on previous MINIs to get album art and better navigational interface of the iphone's media contents; get better sound quality; charge the phone; but relied on bluetooth just for phone...
- now, I see that the bluetooth interface is pushing album art and full navigational interface, wirelessly. I still feel like the sound is much better using the USB cable, but it's now just my own lightning/USB Apple cable, not the Y. I'm getting charging... but otherwise, not sure the benefits, other than the talked about text display in Office mode.

Will Siri via the steering wheel button work in BT mode?

I was a little surprised today to discover moving between tracks on the steering control requires pressing OK after doing so. Nuts!

PS, I went to do the firmware update, though I can't tell entirely whether it pulled it from my USB stick or via satellite... however, success.

Old Firmware

Quick Update

New Firmware

My build was Week 5 2015...

I've tested the voice command button, and press/hold does activate SIRI. I don't have MINI Connected on the phone right now so I haven't tested those enhancements. But you know, between my phone and my current Pebble/future Apple Watch, I don't think I'm interested in a third texting interface...especially on the road.

Dang it really bums me out that mine will not update and MINI seems to not care that it doesn't work.

The lightning/USB cable obviously replaced my Y cable. You'll get better sound out of the bottom docking port on the phone than via BT or the headphone port hole. BT has to compress the sound, and the headphone port is after the sound is amplified, the docking port is before. EQ on the phone is sent to the docking port.

I'm not sure how this happened but my iPhone 6 now has the Show Notification slider on the bluetooth for Mini. I just noticed it tonight when I decided to look again. I'll check out if this also means I'll get the notification for new messages or email during a trip.

I have the latest Mini software with an iPhone 6 and all possible options turned on, I've deleted and added the Bluetooth connection and I still don't get any email or text messages. Oh well.

My messages started displaying. I saw an envelope icon on the center console, so I popped into 'Office' and there they were. Yes, only what comes through while IN the car, and isn't dynamic, so if you read a message on your phone, it would still be showing up on the MINI display. That said, great feature...
However, I'm expecting the Apple Watch will be much like my Pebble, in that if I get a message I just glance at my wrist. I don't know how much I'll use this feature on the MINI...

The same is true with my Mini. Since the Send Notification slider became available on my iPhone6, I'm now getting new messages that come in while in the car. Nice feature is I can have Mini to read it out for me.
