Minor Problems

On day 2 noticed a scratch on the horn button on the steering wheel. Must have happened at the factory.
When I washed my car yesterday noticed that one of the robots had had a leaky caulking gun and while sealing all the joints around the back hatch (check what looks like welds they are caulk) dropped some around the interior frame - where the water runs. This was in turn painted and after I touched it is now a white spot. It's a drag because you can't really ask for the whole interior trim to get painted all you are going to get is a touch up. There are 2 places this happened one is mainly covered by the rubber gasket.

Hmmm Im surprised they didn't catch that after inspection on all your items you mentioned. Are you going to bring it up too the dealer?

Zippy. Did that today they are going to order a new cover and touch up the paint. But it will always be that...a touchup.

Here's an out of focus pic of the spot. The one in my first post is not scratched. Be careful though this stuff is soft and the paint will come off!

I see what you mean about the seam sealer. They really goop that stuff on! As far as touch up is concerned.. Im not a fan of it either. I suppose the seam sealer is still very soft yet and hasn't cured much.. The main thing is as long as your happy with what ever they do for yah! You have a nice ride! I see people are posting there washing there new MINIs. I thought you weren't suppose to wash them for a good month!

That caulk will never harden up anyway. Paint over a soft surface....watch out.

The seam sealer should firm up a bit more.. But most seam sealers require some dry time before painting. Other wise paint will not adhere properly to the sealer nor will the seam sealer dry properly. Seam sealer needs to breath a bit (cure) before painting over it! Just makes me wonder how fast these are being built in the factory.

Zippy. I'm sure it happens the same day! You can feel how soft it is underneath.

I pushed on this caulk, sealant(?), but I didn't squish or squeeze it and it seemed firm. My car was completed on March 26th, so maybe it had time to cure/harden.

Yes mine is reasonably stiff where it looks like a weld -its the other spots where it is very soft.

I did the same and found the same results as Torpeau. All weld lines felt very firm and solid.

Looking at the OP's original photos I see the spot of caulk he is talking about next to the nice weld line which I do not have on mine. All of the weld lines on mine are fairly smooth and and the area around them is clean without any bumps or apparent drops. I think you called right Greg that the robots may have had an off moment and squirted too much stuff on the car's body.

MM also from my limited knowledge of industrial grade caulking they are always 2 part and mix in the gun. that's why they can paint right over them as they are a chemical set.
What I suspect happened with mine is that one of the 2 parts dripped and that is why it is so soft under the paint. Never cured....

that sounds logical to me as well from what I know the process Greg.
