I want to get to the bottom of something that has come up on this board a couple of times, and thats the lack of audible drama coming from the new Cooper S pipes. It has been remarked many times after test driving the car that the formerly heard pop's and burble are notably missing on the F56. I just read a review that stated Mini's push for better power delivery and fuel economy has resulted in less excess fuel for the exhaust pipe to play with.
SO, is it in fact gone? Watching this review you are left to believe its still there
I remember reading that the original R53 so-called "fake burble" was just that: not due to backfiring, it was somehow a sound piped into the exhaust not fuel ignition related. I don't notice it on my 2007 MCS at all. I heard they added it to some JCW models.
On my test drive I was only really able to hear it in sport mode. Much more of a snap than my old R53 rather than the burble. The salesman even pointed out the snaps I was creating.
I don't like my exhausts popping , burbling or making any other noises...unless you are driving a Porsche, which I did prior to my mini, exhaust note on this level of a vehicle is just not that big of a deal. and if they have to fake it, well, I just don't know what to say about that...lol

Exhaust note is not that big of a deal????!!! What?? I think my pop and burble changes the driving experience.
don't get me wrong..i love my mini as well...but it is not a sports car. it is lots of things...fun and quirky are words I would use. but visceral does not come to mind to me. I guess all things are relative. I have had the luck in my life to own cars more traditionally considered "sports cars". I might be comparing the F56, probably unfairly, to those cars. But in the end, you wouldn't be on this site if you didn't love your mini. Maybe its just for different reasons.
Mine has a lot of turbo whine (it's not super "loud" like a turbo diesel whine but very noticeable and cool) under hard acceleration, more than I've ever heard on our countryman or my Coupe. Not so much the gurgle, pop, gurgle gurgle on the F56.
've also noticed the tail pipes on my F56 S are not sooty black like my Coupe and Countryman.

That's been my experience as well. Nothing in Mid and Green. It's there in Sport mode.
Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but how does modifying the A/C system contribute to exhaust Pop?
Crap that probably wrong name forgot what they called it it right by exhaust about the the size of a 2 liter bottle my bad. When I get home I'll take a picture of it.
