So my car was ordered the first week of April and production has been delayed until at least mid-May because I have a contrasting roof. I hear some people are delayed until July. The HK upgrade is still causing delays. Is anyone here, besides me, in the middle of a production delay?

 

My thunder grey F56 MCS on order has a black roof/mirrors but was not delayed as a result that I am aware. My order was submitted in late March however.

My MA did mention at the launch event this past Fri that this has become an issue for many current orders and is causing them trouble. They were happy to take any order of course from anyone there; but were making it clear to customers that if they wanted a contrasting roof color that it would cause a significant delay. He said it was a paint shortage issue. The H/K upgrade issue though has been resolved as far as he knew.

 

Not to make you mad or anything, my Thunder Gray/ Black MCS with HK was ordered April 6th finished the 16th now at port waiting on a boat. It's weird how these delays work.

 

paint shortage? LOL. Now thats funny. I would think black or white wouldn't be a difficult paint to get ahold of. But what do I know :D

Guess I ordered in time- March 29, it's awaiting transport. Whew!

 

Ordered my Thunder Grey with white roof/caps/stripes on April 2nd and finished production April 14. Now at the port awaiting shipping vessel according to (866) number. I didn't go with HK stereo so maybe that's why it went through fast.

 

By "contrasting roof" you mean black or white, right? I'm assuming those are the only two colors available other than the same color as the body.

 

My TG is waiting for a boat also...hopefully we will be getting them soon. I was hoping before the Dragon which is in 2 weeks but I'm not thinking it's going to make it sadly.

I'll say a prayer to the transportation gods for you (and me). That would be great to have it by then but I doubt we're (I'm) that lucky.

 

Yea I'm dying to take it this year, they have over 1000 registered this year. Last year was great but it rained a lot. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!!

I can assure you, after too much correspondence with too many US dealers, MINI USA reps and MINI customer service, that contrasting roof production won't go back to normal until July.

"Some" "pre-existing" orders won't be affected.

But if you were to order a contrasting roof F56 today, they won't build it until July which means you probably won't take delivery until at least August.

And MINI does not intend to offer any kind of incentive to order during this problem.

I wonder what qualifies as "pre-existing"... as in what was the cutoff date. Mine was ordered April 2nd.

 

It was like pulling teeth to get them to admit to the above. I highly doubt they'd commit to what qualifies as "pre-existing." You could try contacting MINI USA to see if your particular order will eke by. Otherwise, you'll have to wait at least 2 more months for your MINI.
