False Low Oil Alert

Just did my second oil change on 2016 Mini-Coop. New filter, oring and washer, drain on filter housing.
Used 4 quarts, couldn't get oil test to work, next day after coming home wife says alert for add one quart, so added one more quart, next day alert says it's below minimum now, double checked for oil leak and non detected. Need suggestions to if I did a bad oil filter change.

Which model do you have. They take different amounts of oil. If you have a S, it's 5 Liters of Oil.

Not an S, either way the difference I think is 4.5 -5 qt. I put 4 quart in , next day it said add 1 qt which I did, today it said it was below safe minimum.
I've remove oil filter and it was OK, filter clips onto housing, new oring, threaded on all the way, I drained oil and it was full, next add 3.5, let it warm up and run oil level check, Wondered if there was a sensor when doing oil level check, or if it acts this way when over filled?

The 3 cylinder takes 4.25 quarts. You have to drive it for about 20 minutes, park on a level surface, don't turn off the engine, and then activate the oil level check. It will take a minute or 2 to check the oil.

Just finished the 20 min warm up and measurement is at 85-90% of full, way past the min mark. Why it did what it did this afternoon makes no sense, but secure in knowing filter install was correct and another $20 of oil, fingers crossed it's done fuss'n! Hey! Thanks for the support, highly appreciated! (Beats the heck out of me why mini hides any oil capacity info, I checked every where.
