Replacement engine B46 or B48?

So I had a engine replacement on my 2014MCS was wondering if the replacement is the B46 which was original or did they replace them with the B48?

B48 was the original engine on 2014 F56s, B46 was the new engine in 2015MY MINIs going forward.

I would assume the repair order would call out the part number of the engine and you could use RealOEM and find out that way. I'm sure the engine serial number would let you know, but I don't think it's easy to get to.

Honestly it was most likely a B48. They stopped the B46 for the US market to meet SULEV requirements as I understand it. There isn't a change in performance between the two.

So, it's a bit of a late response, but my 2014 motor was just replaced and they did put in a B48 (not the newer B46) according to the work order. I found that interesting.

Got it backwards: the B48 was stopped in the US for MY2015 (with the exception of the JCW), and the B46 is the new engine. While there is no performance difference, there is a slight difference in MPG. If I remember right, they lost 1-2 MPG in the city but gained some highway MPG so it almost evened out.

The B38 they used in the Cooper has also been replaced by the B36 for MY2016 and is now SULEV as well.
