Whenever I start my 2015 Mini Hatchback, the Automatic Climate Control comes on. Every time it comes on I turn it right off. Is there a setting to keep it from turning on? I'm in Los Angeles and it will be a while before I need climate control.

 

It's possible to disable it automatically turning on through coding.


You need to code it using a laptop with the right software and hardware cables which connected to the car's ODB port.

You can turn it off by disabling Memory, then it'll always be off even if you had the fan on before you shut off your car.
I found it's actually more convenient to have the fan running every time I start the car, so I went back to stock setting for this.

If I use manual mode, then next time it starts with fan 1 on manual mode. When I didn't have any fan on, I noticed the windshield starts to fog up pretty quickly at night so it was just better to keep it on for me. I'm in Portland, OR area.

Also, there's some weird smell coming in if I turn the fan off, driving in a highway, and crack the window open a little bit, or even with the window closed when the air flows in through the vent. I don't know where it's coming from as I rarely use AC. When I turn the fan on, there's no smell though.

 

I don't think you can avoid that. A number of F56 owners complain about this "feature".

 

Leave Auto On, Turn the fan speed way down, turn the AC off - those settings will be remembered

 

But I would still need to turn it off every time. I took my Mini to someone who does coding. The climate control now remembers the last setting, the doors automatically unlock when I turn off the engine, plus a few other minor changes. The only thing he couldn't do was add A2DP to the Bluetooth profiles. The hardware wouldn't support it.
