Hello,
We have P1290 code (cylinder head temperature sensor) on our 2017 1.5L Clubman. I reset it once, but it returned. Though I've read this could be sign of trouble in the turbo system, I've purchase a cylinder head temperature sensor and I'd like to replace it. I've been doing some searching and I can't find a video or instructions on how to do it. I can't even find info on where it's located. Has anyone replaced their cylinder head temperature sensor? If someone can point me to some instructions on how to do it, it would be awesome. If someone could at least show me where the sensor is located, it would be a huge help.
Answering my own question here. I found a some rough information on the location of the sensor, so I went searching on the car and found the cylinder head coolant temperature sensor in the top of the engine block on the front facing side. You have to remove the intake manifold to get to it.
It did not. I took it to a mechanic with the tools needed to further troubleshoot and determined the wastegate is malfunctioning at times. The whole turbo assembly needs replaced. My girlfriend is currently driving it with the code as it was going to be $5000 - $7000 to replace it. Not sure if she'll ever get it fixed or not.
That's news to me, but good news. My next concern would be the calibration of the waste gate. My AutoEnginuity tool, with the BMW/Mini expanded upgrade, doesn't offer the procedure. How would I go about calibrating it after replacing it?
