Oil Change Interval

First time Mini owner. We recently purchased a 2020 with 4k miles. Reading thru the manual, it states 10k mile oil change interval. Does anyone do them at 5k instead? Some older content I found on the web suggested dirty oil in the engine contributes to early turbo failure.

I would start with 5000 mile interval up to 20,000 miles, then have an oil analysis performed. Do two more 5000 mile changes, and have another oil analysis performed. (you should be at about ~30k miles) The oil analysis can also tell you how the oil is aging, how much life it has left, and how long you can extend your oil change interval. With the analysis, you'll be able to see how the engine is breaking in, and how to keep it operating as intended.

I always change the oil and filter at 5 to 6K, whatever the recommended schedule. Better safe...

I am thinking this is route I will go. Just pay for an oil change locally every 5K and then let Mini pick up the next change at 10K.

I do wish there was a dipstick tube on our motors through which I could pull an oil sample easily... *grumble grumble*

Don't forget, it's TIME and/or MILES.

I just did the first annual service at exactly 12 months, with less than 3,000 miles on the clock from new delivery back in 10/2019.

I chatted with my excellent service writer at the BMW Center where I have had several services performed in the past. He said "When the car tells you it's time, it's time."

But then, I lease.
