Don't think it is. Not in Canada anyways. I think the law is by 2018 all cars should have it as standard. I know the new Countryman comes with it already.
It will be standard on all of the 2018s. Basically, for each year since (I think) 2014, all manufacturers were required to sell X% of new cars with backup cameras, with X rising every year, until 2018 when X=100.
So prior to 2018, manufacturers included them in option packages and/or only on certain models -- just enough to get to X.
My used 2017 has one, but I didn't configure it. But man -- a car whose front bumper I couldn't see cuz it was up behind me ..... looked 10 ft away in the backup camera. I was in a pharmacy drive-up queue, otherwise I'd never have noticed that. It's HUGELY exaggerated!
happen to have any pictures of where the camera is installed? cant seem to find any pics of clubmans with a backup camera.
Mine is above the license plate, under the lip. I reach there (blindly) to wipe road dust off the fish eye lens. Pretty much in the middle of the license plate, on this purloined web shot (if it actually appears).
