Forgoing TPMS?

I'm switching to a separate set of wheels/tires for the winter this year and considering going without TPMS sensors.

Anyone know what the warning is like on an F54 when no TPMS is present? Does it just chime each time you start the car and illuminate a light? I don't imagine it warns you constantly when driving or not that I've heard. That said, I only seem to be able to find threads about not having TPMS on 2nd gen MINIs.

OE was 205/55/16s. Just upgraded to 225/40/18 on 18x7.5 non RFs. No tpms. No buzzers or any other noises. When you engage the starter message comes on the screen (smaller unit on my '16 non S) saying tpms is inoperative. Tap the controller and message goes away. Then there is another message, tap controller again and the only sign which remains and does not go away is the tire icon in the speedo display. Doesn't bother me but some might be put off by the little light.

Any particular reason for not using the sensors on winter tires?

Not particularly. I just wasn't sure it was worth paying for a set to put on.

Don't the cost like $200 for a set? That's more than a wheel and tire right?

If it saves your butt from a blow out on the highway, I'd consider $200 a bargain. If it prevents your car from crashing into me I'd appreciate it if you keep all safety systems intact.

The TPMS goes off quite a lot, when the weather gets colder. For me, at least. (Chicago area) The air pressure changes, and it gets flagged. Very tiring. I got a *bit* less of that when I had Helium in the tires. (Nitrogen? One of those gasses.)

Thanks everyone for the info on how the car alerts you when not having TPMS.

I ended up getting TPMS sensors. You can all sleep soundly now

I believe it can be coded out and use an alternative of individual tire rotation.
