COC (Certificate of Conformity) for Moving To Portugal?

Hi -

In the initial stages of planning a move to Portugal. For a number of reasons, looks like it would make sense to pay the shipping expenses and paperwork charges to bring our 2014 R55 Clubman S along for the move.

However, one head scratcher is the Certificate of Conformity (COC). Gather the purpose of this is to insure the car 1) meets EU requirements, and 2) hasn't been modded (not a concern in our case).

MINI dealer doesn't know anything about this, and I'm not seeing anything that's pointing me to a US service for getting this handled (although there are ones in the EU).

Has anyone done a US to EU move with their MINI? If so, how did you handle this, and were there other challenges?

Have an attorney who is willing to assist, but wants $1500 for his time, which seems pretty significant. Interested in knowing what the going rate might be?

Cheers,

B

Mods: Please feel free to move this to someplace It'll receive proper attention, if I've misposted here...

When I moved my R50 Cooper from Romania to France, they asked me for COC.Only an official dealer can supply this doc.In Romania dealer asked me for lot of papers, including original keyfob, all papers in original and 200Euro.I was helped by a friend from Germany, BMW dealer from Germany asked only pictures from Vehicle ID card, and car owner ID card, price 120Euro.10 Days delivery time.In fact, when you buy a car it is the obligation of the dealer to give you this certificate.
In Europe, this certificate is required when registering a car, especially when it comes from a foreign country.

My Daughter found out that homologating her 2011 US Spec BMW 328i to EU/ Italian spec would have cost her a couple thousand $$
Luckily she received a military waiver, as the car was eventually returning to the US .

Are you military PCS? You can skip all the formalities.

I would consider selling your present car, and getting a spanky new one in Portugal!!
