200 HP MINI D
I do agree with you... it is going to get worse... and I have seen it happen alread with regards to the Smart Car.
We have had the Diesel version of the Smart car in Canada for the past 3 or 4 years.
Now that the Smart car is available to the USA market, the Diesel engine has been discontinued for Canada because the USA did not want it. I was told this point blank by the service manager at a Mercedes dealership in Toronto.

They tried it on speculation, but ultimately Canada didn't have enough sales for critical mass by itself. Without US sales, it made no sense to continue.
I drove a Cooper-D around France on our vacation this year, it was as fun as any MINI. It is like driving a Cooper-S as long as you don't rev over 4.5k, massive torque, but runs out of puff early (just like break in).
Now I see they are offering the Cooper-SD in Europe with the 2.0l engine. That sounds like a total monster, only 143hp, but 224ft-lb of torque. That's more torque than a JCW on overboost (the JCW only has 207 on overboost). I'd love to try driving one of those sometimes.
