Will be visiting Dresden in June
Greetings from Chicago,
I figured I would post here to see if anyone is from the Dresden area and ask for some "local" hotspots or things to see that really are not on the tourist maps or some good local places for food and beer. I'm not staying long enough to rent a mini or a vehicle in general, but figured the board might be able to help me out otherwise.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunetly I a prety far from Dresden and I have only been there once (Christmas Market). However, from what I have seen, there is plenty to keep you very busy over a few days.
Dresden has a pretty rich history and the city still has a feel of WWII in it. Dresden was destroyed during the war by bombings that bascially set the downtown area on fire. Many of the buildings have been repaired and some new ones from the East German era give you a rather "eastern block" feeling.
Now there are many upscale shopping areas and of course great German food and beer.
If I were you, I would do a little research on the area and try to plan what you want to see.

Da,
Thanks, I've been doing that but thought if there was a local on the board, they might give me a better insight than a travel book would.
Just looking forward to it as it's the only major city in Germany I haven't been to yet.

An excellent suggestion! Thanks!
