My Final Wave

I always new this day would come, and I wish it came on better circumstances. The rumors are true. Its official. I am departing Germany for good with my MCS Checkmate "Twiggy".

I will be returning to Germany on June 1st. That weekend I would like to squeeze in any last minute MINI ralleys and possible Nurburgring. If your interested, please let me know, and post here.

My MINI will be getting shipped around the 4th of June for a long voyage to America, the land of slow straight roads and very rude drivers.

I would like to think I helped bring together our little group of MINI motorists together, getting involved with the locals and the German MINI chapters.

I don't do goodbyes. So with that said, when I step aboard that plane one final time to return to USA, I say to each, I will see you later, motoring along side that highway we call life while giving that one final wave while passing by. If your ever find yourself in NC and want to do the dragon, just hit me a PM and off to motoring we go.

To all, I will see you in the bends, Motor On !!! MINI Forever !!!

... and we NC people are very excited to have Rudy joining us in the land of rednecks and speed nannies.

Your loss is our gain.

This whole global MINI cult thing is cool, eh? Moving to another contintent? No worries. Pick up where you left off with some different cool people. Kinda like Scientology, but without Tom Cruise.

RudyT you will be sorely missed! Make sure you keep in touch and I am definitely planning on taking you up on the Dragon offer. I will be back in a couple of years so I am making my "reservations" early! Motor on!

Blimey, take care of Rudy! He can be a bit "excitable" at times but he really means well! Just kidding!

Hell ya... I'm like a firecraker waiting to burst... Very active I will be in the MINI community, hopefully bringing new ideas, events, and so on. Maybe one day I'll be an officer.

You can bet I'll be keeping in touch. In the land of the internet I will make it so. I look forward to joining up with Blimey and already feel welcome into a new MINI family and for that I am greatly thankful and appreciated. That in itself makes the transition much easier.

Damn Rudy, you went from an hour away when I was in BK to 5+ and the chances are probably higher now that we'll run into each other

Good luck on your trip, try not to stress out too much while Twiggy's on the boat and we'll see you around

Oh, and Blimey, make sure you stress the whole "Speed Limit" thing once Rudy hits the States I've been back 10 months and the whole idea still eludes me sometimes

A "speed" detector or "fuzzbuster" is already on the list. Valintine One to keep the lead foot in check. The only reason I am able to even keep within the speed limits is due to constant heavy traffic (while in DC). I am still craving a traffic circle. Traffic lights are getting very annoying at this point and I already have that paranoid head bob looking for the donut eaters.

I'll definitly be seeing you, Drill, in the bends. It is quite funny that even though there is greater distance, though bigger chance of a meet.

Yeah, you will have a hard time finding any curvy roads in NC

Off it Goes

Off it goes into the vast blue sea... towards the colonies...

My MINI Cooper S Checkmate has officially been shipped as of yesterday at 1205pm. The last drive was a slow one to keep the bugs off for inspection and it only lasted for 6 miles. It was a slow dance before I get to stretch her legs again. Not to worry as Sunday, the day I arrived back in Germany, I gave her lots of attention on the German back roads. Lots of rubber was spent on my need for the bends.

Mandatory On or Before delivery date: 20 July. (look for me real soon Blimey)

It was at this moment on 1205 pm that I gave Twiggy one final wave, one final look as it rolls off in line to be loaded on a truck. I'll admit, one tear was shed but knowing we will soon be reunited made it better.

For all those in USA, I'll see you soon, and all those who made my experiences in Germany awesome and grand, I'll see you on the flip side and around the bends.

Till then, Auf Wiedesane, Tchuess !

Oh, man. I missed the final drive.

It's what I get for taking leave.....

Safe travel, Rudy. You know, well worn running shoes make decent driving shoes. Of course, it's after you put a few hundred miles on them. Are you going to come back for the Berlin marathon?

Thanks. The final drive on Sunday was just myself and lots of open twisty, curvy roads. It would have been a blast if I you and the gang up, but I made the best of it.

Once I leave Germany next Saturday, I won't be returning for awhile. I'll have to do the marathon in the States. At least a year at most before that happens. Right now its just about maintaining until things settle down with my transition and move.

When you make it back to the states, just give me a call or shoot me an email. I'll have to give you a personal tour of NC and you can meet the new gang at Tarheel MINI Motoring Club and this time, I get to host the sleepover.

RudyT, Good luck and Godspeed to you and yours! Stay safe and enjoy yourself in NC. Where, exactly, will that be? My boy's starting at Appalachian State next year in Boone. Yup, not too far from the Dragon. This'll be a case of the parents visiting the college kid more than the other way round!! When you do run the Dragon, let us know how that goes!

Cheers!!

I'm always ready... Soon Blimey... Very soon. Maybe in August. Right now I'm going through MWS. MINI Withdrawl Syptoms. Side effects include driving rental cars through twisties at dangerous speeds, taking the long way home, and obsessive compolsive detailing...

The dragon will be just what the doctor ordered to cure my need for bends.

Hey, is Smiley on PCS leave? Please, Blimey -- keep an eye out of a beady-eyed chap who answers to Smiley, and if you see him, keep him away from RudyT. If not, you'll have a Nürburgring racer (RudyT) who only knows how to drive at autobahn speeds, hitting the Dragon with a TC who is prone to yank the parking brake and drift through corners (I kid you not), all the while yelling "Faster! Faster! Faster!"

Actually, if Smiley shows up, be sure to send the chase cam car, and post the video afterwards!

I gotta get my camera rig finished. This is gonna be fun...

At MOTD I could rely on my expert driving prowess (and paddle shifters) to drive with one hand while holding the camera with the other.

And still hang with whoever was in front...

But I think I'm gonna need both hands with you strudel-powered miniacs...

And the pasta powered one next MOTD as well. My time in Italy will be up next April .
But I think a MOTD will make it better.
