Taking the Xenon Projector out ('05+)

Is it easy to take the projector itself out? Or would one have to take the front lens of the headlight off and take it out that way? I would assume that would mean baking the lens in an oven to get it off. No Thanks! Can anyone confirm the proper method?

I don't have any words of advice, but out of curiosity, can I ask why you would want to do that?

I want to make my projector's EURO spec. Instead of buying all new assemblies, you can take the projector out and replace either the entire projector itself or replace the shield that's inside the the projector.

The difference is that there is a much larger flare on the right hand side. You will see signs so much further down the road if you have EURO spec lights. You could probably find the projectors for about $150-$200. Shields are even cheaper if the projector isn't that difficult to work with (which they usually aren't.)

I dunno, just an idea. Maybe I just need to go and tinker with my car a bit more to find the answer out.

you would have to take it out. The projectors are screwed in from the back.

Keep in mind, with a larger flare, you would have to aim the lights down further to reduce the glare to other cars & drivers.

The Bosch projectors, the assemblies are riveted-- so working with the assembles will be a tad tedious

I'm assuming you're talking about the LHD/RHD aiming - on the newer facelift lights you can move a lever in the back to change the aim, which would achieve the same thing. Problem is though, the reason they're aimed this way is to stop you glaring other road users - please, think of other people on the road!

You aren't blinding oncoming traffic though...because the flare is to the right. Maybe people that are at a stop light on the right hand side of you but not people driving toward you.

My friend just pulled hers apart and did not have to bake them. She started prying in the area where the washer is. She did it to paint the inside black. Hers were a lot easier to do than my standard 02 lights. The chrome rings just came out, but there are some small torx screws inside that will need to be removed with an allen style wrench. You do need to bake them to reseal them properly. We used 230 degrees. Overall I thought they were pretty easy to take apart, but it is a scary thing to do because of the cost. PM wickedgolf about it and search for "joey mod"

Pulled mine apart last weekend. I think it would be VERY tough to change over to euro spec though. Once inside the lights there are some Torx screws that are nearly impossible to get to with any tool. Not work the risk in my opinion after being there.

If you want to know you can bake them at 230 degrees for 6 minutes to get the lens off. I don't recommend pulling them apart without heating them as the lens will crack if you are not uber-careful. With heating them, they come apart VERY easily.

Well you know, the HID's are just fantastic. I just wanted them a bit better. I had EURO projectors retrofitted in my previous car and there is a big with the flare. Is it worth it to bake them and risk ruining them? Absolutely not.

On the other hand, why couldn't I just purchase a set of EURO headlamps and swap them out? Yeah it's more money, but it seems like a simple swap out. No?

That and you could sell the old assemblies to help recoop the cost of the euro spec ones.
