Is there a way to have the DSC always off at the startup. I heard about some chip...that you plug into the ECU? Anybody know anything about this and where to get it...Cost?

Had mine set up like that at the 1st service intereval by the dealer. Just request it, thats all I did. Mine is a 2003 MCS and the change was made at Tom Bush MINI in Jacksonville Fl.

Another way is to add Ian Cull's "Auto Up" Circuit with DSC Track Mode. In addition to being able to have DSC "off" by default, it will also allow you to raise your windows with a "double-click" on the toggle switch, rather than having to lift and hold the toggle switch. The cost is $48, and it's a real easy install (it plugs into the back of the toggle switch panel).

Plus, you can disable the "DSC Auto Off" any time you wish to. On mine, I leave DSC "on" by default unless I'm autocrossing. When I get to the track, I set DSC to "auto off" so that I don't have to remember to keep turning it off every time I re-start the car. When the autocross is finished, before I leave to go home, I set DSC back to "auto on". Switching back and forth between the modes is done using the factory toggle switches.

I have this on both of our MINIs, and can't imagine being without it now.

Great mod

The Ian Cull circuit is a must-have just for the window auto-up feature. I don't use the "DSC off" mode myself but's its there.

billie says, "Wish I had thought of that."

As a matter of fact, I pulled my Ian's mini circuit out prior to the dealer's first service interval. Didn't want them making notes on my permanent record and voiding my warranty. I did not, however, remove the 15% supercharger pulley.

I've never before heard of having DSC configured to be inactive by the dealership! It doesn't sound like something MINI corporate would allow?

I am very surprised a dealer would do that.

I use one of Ian's auto-up circuits with track mode to silence the darned traction nanny on my car. Best money I've spent.
