keyless push button start

i had the pleasure of driving an 07 corvette and 06 lexux IS. they both had push putton starts that would only work if the key was within 10 feet of the car. i was looking at some forums about push button starts, but none that require you to be close to the vehicle, i hate when i get into my car and realize i have to stretch and squeeze my hands into my pockets and find my keys. does anybody know if there is a kit for something like that? or has somebody make their own kit? thanks.

Moss and MyMINI both sell pushbutton start kits. One of them is made to install in plae of the cigarette lighter/AC socket and is fairly easy to install. With both you still need your key.

On the BMW side the push button start is the same (obviously) as MINI, but they have the "Conviniance Package" that has the keyless start option, of course with the key in or near car. But find out what that consists of get a part number and cost let us all know the details. I would love that option

i dont know if a remote start would work in the MINI due to the immobilizer system. they key transmits a signal to a reciever near the ign. switch when it is inserted. the reciever sends the signal to the body control module which tells the engine control module that the key is registered and the ecm (dme) allows the engine to start.

on the vettes, lexus, and some newer cars the fob transmitts a signal which goes through the same process to start the engine except without having to use the key.

I dont know if theres an aftermarket remote start system that would be able to work on newer cars due to the immobilizer.

I ordered my 07 MCS this week!! It won't be here for 6-8 weeks so I have some time to figure out which mods I want.

So is a remote start not possible? I did a quick google search and came a cross this system not sure if it would work:

Remote start in New England is really nice to have once winter starts.

No personal experience with the Mini and remote start, but I know my Lexus and our olld Honda had chips in the key and we have had remote starters in both cars. All they do is program a box, or use a spare blank key under the dash. Best bet is the programed box. DEI (Directed Electronics) products will probably have a solution. (Viper, Cobra, and other serpent brands)
