Rear Fog Light Install... not finding

I am trying to install a rear fog light on a '06 MCS and have read in other posts that it is already pre-wired. I am not finding the pre-wired wire and/or connector. I did a search and have not found an answer.

Does anyone have suggestions or pictures?

Thanks for reading!

Pep'r,
Sorry I can't help since the '06 setup is likely different.

But with my '04 there was nothing to wire, it was done. All I had to do was get the dash toggle and have the dealer "code" it on. It was a freebie, 5-minute service stop.

Pep'r, what have you done so far? Mine was pretty easy to find after popping out the rubber plug. I don't remember exactly, but I think the connector and wire were coiled and taped somewhere above the hole. Maybe if you have someone in your household with small hands who can reach in and feel around (make sure the exhaust is cold!).

I, too, tried in vain to install the rear fog light pacakge - mostly to get that last missing toggle switch into my dash. I went through 3 reorders with my local MINI dealer (actually 90 miles away) and they never could find the right parts to order. Long story short - 3 months of time, $300 in returned parts and $20 in non-refunded shipping charges later and I'm back to where I started; one missing toggle switch and a black plastic blank in my rear bumper.

I added a BackOFF XP flasher at the same time.

I ordered my toggle panel and fog light from Classic MINI. They are familiar with the retrofit and will order the correct toggle panel based on your car specs. They also have a NAM discount.

rkw, so far we have not done anything except slide under the Mini to look for the wire. We have the light sitting in the box wait for its new home. Our Mini came with the aero kit....I am hoping they did not relocate or even worse remove the wire and plug. Is there another location they might have hidden this wire?

Today we will look again for the wire. Thanks for everyones replies.

On an S, I don't think it would be visible from under the car because of the center exhaust. Pop out the rubber plug first.

When you remove the black cover the plug is located inside taped to a frame rail for the body. You need to get down low and look up into the compartment.

I got my lamp and switch panel from Classic Mini as well. I found the wiring harness up inside the bumper shell taped in place like others have described.

I've noticed that there are 3 led's under the switch panel that illuminate the cup holders and small storage bin under the switch panel. The middle one, the one that faces the small storage bin behind the cup holders doesn't come on when I turn on the lights now? I've not yet been to the dealer to have them program the new setup so hopefully that will take care of the problem. Anyone else notice the middle led not working after doing the rear fog light install?

Thanks for the reply mini-rolls.

pixlpush, we will keep an eye on the LEDs after we get the switch pod installed.

Now that you mention it, I guess I never paid attention. Mine only has 2 LEDs with none in the middle. This was after installing a new toggle panel for the rear fog. I sold my original panel and can't check whether it had 2 or 3 LEDs.

However, see this entry in Ian Cull (GBMINI)'s blog: http://www.gbmini.net/mtblog/archive...the_togg.shtml
It appears that two LEDs is normal and he added a third LED.

Thanks for posting this. I knew there were only two LEDs and had seen this DIY some time ago but couldn't remember where it was posted.

Thanks for the link rkw, very informative. I took a closer look at the original switch panel I removed. It was from my 2006 MCS it has all toggles except the rear fog light. The car has ASC, not DSC. I was surprised to find one center LED that points down and 2 that point out the back of the panel. It has holes in the casing and places on the circut board for the left and right LED's that point down, just no LED's in that position on the board.

I didn't look that close at the new panel I installed that has all of the toggles and ASC. It appears to have 2 LED's that point straight down at the left and right, none in the center and none that point out the back. Not a problem but curious just the same? I wonder if it's a model year change or something? The thing I liked about the original setup is that it got a bit of light into the tray behind the cup holders. I may pull the new one just to check it out and will post some photo's of what the differences are. I don't think it bothers me enough to perform micro surgery on the board inside the switch box but it is curious just the same.

Piece of Cake!

Thanks for everyones help with this rear fog light.

Now all I need to do is install the switches.

Took these pictures for anyone else wanting to add a rear fog light, one is blurry but it should give you the idea where the wire and plug is located.

Thanks again!
Rick

Reach under and behind the bumper and feel for the two tabs that hold it in place.

How much are you guys paying to get the rear fogs activated? So I know what to expect.
