As far as installations go, it is an easy one. The alarm is pre wired. Rear sensor goes in in about 45 seconds, just clips into that square thing in the headliner at the back.

The hardest part about putting the siren/tilt sensor in (goes by the DSC controller) is fishing the plug out, it is well wrapped up on the wiring loom with electrical tape.

Then you need to replace the light switch stalk (in an '05 plus with the orange washer warning light on the washer stalk). Not hard, just take your time.

Do a search there are a couple of good write-ups with pictures floating around.

The whole install took me about 45 minutes. Then I had the dealer code the alarm when I went in for the first service.

NOTE: the kit does not come with instructions, but you can ask the dealer for them (I didn't bother, it wasn't that complicated).

If your in san luis obispo, ca, I'll install your alarm for you for a pack of beer. :-p. Then just take it to get it coded. Seriously takes like 10 minutes to install.

I'd take you up on that, if you don't mind. Hopefully you drink good beer!

I don't take Jerome home for another 2 weeks. If you're okay with that send me a PM.

So with the OEM alarm system, does the car beep when you lock the doors.....or any other changes that you would notice in everyday use?

Beeps on lock and unlock. No other changes in every day use, except for the flashing stalk. (and a loud siren if someone jacks up your car or breaks your window)

Keysersozeh - same offer here if you're close to Santa Cruz. I wouldn't guarantee it in 10 minutes, but you wouldn't be able to finish the latest issue of Autoweek.

I called my dealer and they want $600.00 installed.

I called parts, they said $214.00 for alarm and another $200.00 for
other parts needed. Service said they would charge me $95.00 to program if I install and they remined me about warranty issues.

Well, do it my self $509.00 + warranty issues!

$91.00 more and I set in the waiting room with no warranty issues.

Is there a cheaper place to buy the alarm than the dealer??

Thanks for the reply,
Gerald

If I remember correctly it costs in the range of $300. Classic MINI in Ohio offers a discount to NAM members.

Classic MINI....800.388.1098 or 440.266.6700

Sounds like your dealer is charging you an hours labor for a ten minute job.

What about an 04'?

Has anyone attempted this on a 2004? Same processes? Any special tools?

There selling you a load of BS. The wiper stalk is $100 and you can get it cheaper from Classic and the other 2 pieces (interior proximity and siren) are like $295 and again you can get them cheaper at Classic. It took me 30 minutes to install it myself having never work on a MINI and not being familiar with the car. THe dealership charged me 1 hour which was $55 to program it.

Doesn't sound like it. Wiper stalk should be red at the end if you have all the pieces. Yellow if none.

FWIW, I'd suggest the OEM, unless your Viper has specific attributes you're looking for. The BC1 can be finicky at times, and adding an aftermarket alarm just adds a level of uncertainty if you ever have electrical issues.
The OEM is plug and play, and it has motion detection and tilt.
