Interior Light Wiring Diagram

I'm looking for a place to tap into the interior light to add VIP lights to my MC. ('02 Mini Cooper) But I don't know where to start looking for the wires that run to the interior lights that I can tap into. So if anyone knows where or has a wiring diagram for the interior light wiring, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance,

Matt

www.minitechinfo.com $25 for 24 hours access, use internet explorer, and be sure to read carefully the step about downloading the SVG plugin for the electrical schematic sections

this site is from BMW and you have access to all service bulletins, recalls, ect... dont forget to download the pdf's. I opened them and saved a copy to my hard drive. then you can have access to the pdf's anytime you want.

unfortunately the schematic section kinda sucks in my opinion it is like a german car schematic, not a well drawn schematic drawing IMO...

Good Luck !

Thanks for that info! I'll keep that in mind.

Alright think I have a place to tap into just by thinking of somethings. But that behind on the answer to this question!

Question--If I come through the firewall on the Drive Side by the cowl, wheres that come out?? Down behind the knee bolster??

Thanks in advance again,

Matt

Not that low, closer to dashboard level. There are two grommets on the drivers side where you can pass wires through the firewall. The one you are probably referring to is near the strut tower and easily visible from the engine side. The other side of this grommet is located at a fairly cramped, awkward space behind the dash. The other grommet is on the other side of the steering column. This one is not as easy to see and reach on the engine compartment side, but the passenger cabin side has easier access (between the steering column and the center console). So it is a tradeoff choosing between either grommet, and depends on how and where you are routing your wires.

Thanks I'll go and look for those grommets here in a little bit.

I'm routing wires from the exterior to interior to power so lights that I want to connect to the interior. So I need the grommet to be close to some interior light wiring so I can tap into the interior light wiring.

Thanks again

The one I had mentioned seems to be the ticket. The one near the cowl, strut tower, and brake fluid. It is pretty cramped in there but I have small hands and was able to get a weed-eater wire through there to see where the wires would come out on the inside. I removed the cowl in order to see better and reached in through the underside and pushed the weed-eater wire through. It comes through high and far back behind the steering wheel (best I can describe it) I removed the knee bolster in order to see up there. And the footwell light is right there so I can tap into the light wire there.

Thanks everyone!
