Chows,
You mentioned that Bi-xenons would be considered illegal, unless i misunderstood, and yet this suggests that the R56 will have Bi-Xenons
now: does anyone know how hard these would be to retrofit? im debating whether to pay up front or retrofit them later

Do not buy EURO market pieces unless you live in that market. US pieces light to the right, whereas right hand drive market pieces light to the left. If you do get them, you are going to be blinding the people in the oncoiming lane.

All of Europe drives on the right side of the road except one backwards island nation off the north coast of the continent. So some cars actually have lights that meet both Euro (ECE) and US (DOT) standards, though they do tend to have that annoyingly sharp vertical cutoff as required by ECE.

I really have no problem with using a retrofit kit in the high beams of a car equipped with factory U.S. Xenons; the high beams aren't meant to be used in traffic anyway. Trading off the ability to do a quick "flash to pass" may be worth it to someone who needs to use the brights all the time.

familiarstranger, one glance at the headlight assemblies of the R56 would convince you that a retrofit is unlikely to be practical. And that doesn't even consider the compatibility of the electric bits.

Just remember, the UK light assemblies have a different beam pattern than the US spec assemblies.
