Flash2Pass

Well, since my wife opted for the integrated garage door opener on her 06 MINI I am more than a little irritated that I have to fumble around with my garage door opener remote in my 05 MCS. So I have purchased a garage door opener for my MINI that will open and close the door when I flash my high beams. I found out about it from Ian GBMINI website. It is called Flash2Pass. You can view their website at www.f2pelectronics.com.

Installed in 20 minutes or so and only had a minor problem with getting the clips to close on the tap wires. The F2P is a transmitter installed under the hood and tapped into the wires to the High Beam lights. So when you hit the high beams it powers the transmitter which activates the receiver (which is a new wall switch/receiver that comes with F2P) and opens the g-door. If someome doesn't have the F2P transmitter then they cannot open the g-door. The transmitter/receiver is digital technology as well with rolling codes for safety and security.

Plus the F2P transmitter is ran off your MINI battery so no more replacing batteries in a g-door remote. All your existing remotes will continue to work because they will use the receiver in your existing g-door opener unit mounted on the ceiling in the garage. Works great. Flash the high beams and the g-door opens and closes. Much better range than my regular remote control and way cooler plus I don't have to have the remote clipped on my visor. So so far I would say that it is a fairly simple and inexpensive mod and very much worth the money.

So you have to replace the receiver connected to the garage opening mechanism? Presumably you now have two receivers connected in parallel?

Correct. The F2P garage door wall switch replaces the existing switch/button and acts as the receiver for the F2P transmitter under the hood of the MINI or vehicle of your choice. - glassdarkly

I have a 3car garage. One large door and a smaller door. does this product have the capability to operate both doors, or only one?

What was the cost?

What I recommend you do is call Flash2Pass and ask them how to work F2P for your particular situation.

There may be a way to open both doors from one F2P. However, if not I assume that you always park the same cars in the same places in the garages so it would be as simple as a having a F2P for each garage door.

The F2P system I bought was $79.95 and consisted of a transmitter, receiver, and every thing you need to do the installation. Tools required are screwdriver and pliers. You may need an exacto knife to cut the wrap around the headlamp wires.

Just be warned, if you're using those 3M wire clips or something, they have a tendency to let water in on your wires and cause them to corrode.

Thanks for the warning. They are clips but I am not sure if they are the ones you are speaking of. I wrapped them in electrical tape very securely. Do you think that is adequate?

The clips that I'm talking about have a metal 'blade' that pierces the wire sheathing on the wiring and then makes contact between the wires. I recommend, if you have this type, that you do as you did, wrap them in electrical tape, but in the future, you might consider doing something a little more permanent. I'd recommend that you take the clip off at some point and solder the wires on directly and then wrap them in heat shrink.

It really depends on where you live. If you're in a natively damp area, such as the UK, or San Francisco, where they have a lot of airborne moisture, this will cause issues. If you live in Arizona, it's not a concern. You get the idea.

Flash2Pass

I just installed this on my 04' "S" works perfectly. I was
going to put the later model mirror on my car....but after
hearing how people didn't like the size of it, plus the $$$$

I went for the Flash2Pass....

I opted to get different connectors...never liked thoes
clam shell things. Kragen has a simular clamp over connector
however its two pieces. One piece crimps over the wire you
are splicing to and has a spade slot that accepts a spade
connector that you attach to the end of the bare wire. Also
there is a great place to attach the transmitter near the
passenger side headlight. Look up to the right of the passenger
side light where the hood pad is you will see a hole on an internal
brace. If you pull back the pad a little you will see another hole
about 2 1/2" away. Just thread the supplied zip ty through the
two holes and around the transmitter. Keep the head of the Zip ty
to one side or the other when tightening so it doesn't stick up.

I aswell use the F2PASS system and love it. My only complaint is that when I initially installed it, there were voltage issues to the receiver. I ended up having to run an external 12v to the unit, due to the original home wiring not providing enought powa. Thats what I get for living in a "cookie cutter house"

The pricing was perfect, especially if you have an off brand garage door and need to find a replacement remote. Good luck with that...if you do manage to find one, have your checkbook ready to take a serious blow!

Overall, I love the system. I works great all of the time and probebly disturbs my neighbors everynight when I get home....The best of both worlds!

Ok, this might be a stupid question, but what's to keep anyone from flashing at your garage door and opening it? If a thief is casing your house, he may see you flash to open the doors, and he may try it while you're at work.

The system has a transmitter that is installed in your vehicle that send out a signal. It is like using a remote that comes with the opener, that has a rolling security code. This is a great product with easy installation.

the lights themselves don't open the door. the security enabled rf transmitter you install in your car is triggered when you flash your lights.

I'm assuming this works with the HID headlights as well? Just doublechecking, because if it does, I'm ordering this. I was going to hack apart a garage door remote and install it on a small pushbutton or the like under the steering column, but this seems like a much more integrated solution.

Works with HID

I have it installed on my 06 MCSa with HID. It's tapped into the HIGH BEAM, so no connection to the LOW BEAM HID.

The only problem I have is I have to be like 10ft from the garage door in order for it to work. Anybody else have these problem with distance?

Otherwise, its on of the best things I've added to my MINI.

I get about 50 to 60 feet for it to work. You may want to look at the placement of the transmitter and or receiver. I sticky taped mine to the back of the HID assembly. did not want to drill holes or just cable tie it. This works well.

Here is a simple garage door opener option!!! Go to a junk yard or ebay. I got a homlink with the proper color cover plate for $20. Take down trim ring and carefully drill a few holes, trim the center clips, make opening correct to fit the homelink reciever. Hook up power and ground wires(I picked up from overhead reading lamps) and program away. $20 and about 25 minutes. Looks like a factory install!!!

Anyone know the wire color/code for the high beams on a 2013 with zenons? Know the ground is brown on German cars, but can't find a reference for the hot high beam anywhere. Even tried to get it from the service guy at the local MINI dealer: no luck.
