The PIAAs are 510 or 540. Go to their website and look. In general PIAA bulbs are NOT as good as standard Halogens. Read about lights at danielsternlighting.com
Hella is a reputable german firm or CIBIE are good too
Surprised no one has mentioned the MINI-Madness 2 Lamp Rally Kit. I actually installed a set of these myself on my Chili Red MCS last weekend. What a fantastic addition both esthetically and functionally!
Check them out here...

I can honestly say I've never hear of Vision Motorsport Lighting. A quick search shows they started in 1997, if thats the right company. Maybe thats why.
So cool. Another option.

Man, I was hoping for something small like the OEM lights with a black cover for when I don't need them... Is it possible to hardwire the lights so I don't have to have my brights on when I want the driving lights? Thanks! Who sells the OEM's at the best price?

OEMs are sold by MINI
i had decided to take the plunge and test out one of the ebay fog lights.

So far all good. Received lights, wires, switches and a funky chrome frame.
But no mounting plates !
Anyone know of a way to install the lights without the plates? (couldnt find an answer) Otherwise - anyone know where i can buy a set?
Ill post pics of the lights mounted, turned on etc etc once installed.
Cheers!

Mini-Madness sells the mounting brackets for about $75. Classic MINI quoted me something like $50 for the stock brackets. Or, you could make your own!

Driving lights shine a sharp narrow (~10 degree) beam far ahead of the car. Fogs have a very large beam angle which gets under the fog and lights up the road and sides/median. The light isn't as sharp and travels a much shorter distance so it doesn't just light up the fog.

PIAA Or the Madness ones are a much better investment.

What he said.
Good driving lights will shine W-A-Y down the road. Reachoutandtouchsomeone bright.
Fog lights light up the ditch on the right and ~15-20 feet up the road on the left.
At ~30mph you outrun fog lights. On a straight stretch of road you should not be able to outrun driving lights.
