Heated outside mirrors retrofit possible on 2005 R53

Hello Drivers, I have MINI 2005 R53 that I bought in California new. I have since moved to WA state with all the winter conditions rain/snow/fog. Is it possible to retrofit the mirrors with heated mirrrors without having to rewire everything. Do the mirrors already have the connections for this option built-in the mirror housing and all would need to do is wire-in ECS Tuning ES#3046094 Heated Mirrors and replace the switch (European switch ???) behind the gear shift with a unit that has control of the heated mirrors, and then solder- in the non-operable wire from the mirrror to this switch. This might all be fantasy on my part, but if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be appreciated. Note: I don't want to have heated seats & folding mirrors like others have done.

Regards

Keith

AFAIK, you had to have ordered it from the factory for the wiring to be there. I know my car wasn’t pre-wired.

Also there never was a separate switch on any bmw, heated mirrors and heated wiper jets were always on.

Heated mirrors on R53

Keith here again. I see that the switch was wired-in with the heated washer jets, so I went and picked-up two used heated mirrors (with the wiring) from ALLMAG auto parts in Florida. I hope too patch in (power) to the mirror switch aft of the gear lever and manually turn on/off when I need to using my own switch. Does anyone believe this is an appropriate point to connect to or would I need to fuse it independently.

THX

Yep always on and you will see the wires in the housing and the little plugs on one side on the back. We never got auto dim side mirrors, so no extra set of plugs(2 sets) on the other side. Just auto dim center rear view mirror as option. I have it.

Install is very similar on all European platforms: https://blog.ecstuning.com/blind-spo...-installation/
