Electrical Guru? Garage Remote

I've read several INTERNET posts regarding hardwiring a garage remote in car to mount it and not have to worry about replacing battery. Since the battery is 12 volts, that is easy but the amperage of those batteries from what I could find was less than .5 amps new.

So what is the simplest way to step down the amps to a safe level? Or point me to a post I haven't seen.
