R53 ignition toggle switch

I've seen several people have installed a push button start....but has anyone tried to do this with a start/stop switch in the toggle switch bay? I think the newer Mini's have them located there. I think it looks sweet.

people with minis have push button start? R53s to be specific?
your key has an RF id chip in it. youd have to stash a key somewhere near the ignition (or at least the chip) to start the car, pushbutton or not.

There was an oem pushbutton start kit...
Funny thing was...the key had to be in the ignition...but you got a button...
Kinda like a "staples" easy button to push for starting....lol.
A toggle start down by the windows toggles....
Sounds like a one-off mod....
The toggle switches are on a PCB board....so drilling one and installing more switches is very risky...

I haven't seen anyone do a retrofit with a toggle switch yet...I just saw that the new mini's have them, and think it looks bad ***

it would be "neater" if you did a "switch combo lock" for the ignition. thats where you can wire in 1 or several switches in series to the ignition, requiring the switch to be on to start the car. if you do several, it becomes like a combo lock: up up down up for example, would be the required positions to start the car.

There was actually a conversion kit made by MINI to do this. I actually sold one to MINIBee long time ago. You still had to put the key in and turn it on, but you had the start button to start the car.

Sounds like something that's pretty easy to accomplish on your own. Using the OEM switch from the new cars would be the challenging part.
