Electrical The Foot Well Module: functions, problems, solutions?
What problems are you having that seem like the FRM?
- Thank you for your input. I'm just not getting back to working on this.
- Installed ISTAP and currently reading up on it before connecting to the car. Any pointers for keeping ISTAP contained?
- My head unit is already bugging out and my amp makes noise when it's off - so it'll all get replaced soon regardless. Seems a good time to learn to run ISTAP without too much risk - so it'll be safer to run when I get the next mini.
- Running the kdcan cable as well, but the impression I get is that the ICOM helps act as a buffer for slower PC's similar to the hardware controllers I use for CNC equipment - where older PC's could easily be interrupted by multitasking or running out of cache memory.

So, I'm guessing I'm going to need a FRM, 3 times at night, after about 8 miles, I lose all instrument lighting, windows are inop, no blinker tick [but blinkers still work, but don't self-cancel], and no reverse lights.
I also have some slight pulsing in the lighting, could that be a knock-on effect of the FRM?
Going to call a nearby indy shop to get an estimate on it.
1 shop will do it if I provide an OEM FRM, 1hr @ $160
2nd shop will only do it if they order the part & program, haven't gotten a quote from them yet.
Anyone in N Houston able to program a FRM? Or are there any vendors that'll send a programmed unit out? I see @ECSTuning has the modules, but they'll need programming.

Nope we have unprogrammed units only and dont do anything pre code to VIN.

I'm wondering who would have the ability to code an FRM other than a dealer. Could it be done remotely? I'm in the FL panhandle and not exactly in the hotbed of independent BMW/MINI repair gurus. If you know of one near me I'll call them. But I thought if you could do it remotely...
Thanks,
David

I thought I'd read in this thread that some users were able to program it via something like NCS?
It's all new to me, so I really don't know.
Might just have to pony up for a new one & take it to the indy around the corner & have them code it.

If the frm doesn't have any physical damage, I can reflash it for you. I'm based in philly pa. Send me a PM for more details.
:D
I'll take it. 1 less thing [and expense] to worry about for now.
Thinking I might need a new top
The repairs I tried didn't hold. Might let the temps come down & try 1 more time before dropping $2k for a [DIY installed] new top.

I'm adjusting to how nimble this thing is compared to my much larger Explorer [which will get the axe once I'm confident in the Cooper].
Have yet to lower the top, with the window as it is, haven't wanted to potentially make it worse.
Yup, my F150 & Mercedes C300 had one & my current Explorer does too. Almost never gets opened.
I could see using the Cabrio, though. Once we're out of melting temps in Houston. Though my Midget may start seeing some mileage then as well.

But we digress.... Wondering if either of my two not so local dealers will honor this recall.
This has become almost a 'fact of life' in my R57. Almost every drive ends up with the warning light & multiple things disabled.
This may move up ahead of replacing the top on the repair list.
Not being able to open the windows has been a pain a few times already.
Glad I have the little Garmin, so I still get speed readout when the gauges go dark at night.
Anyone have a photo or guide on getting to the FRM? It's behind the kick panel & forward of the hood release, right?

This video may help. Video shows 2010 RHD Mini but LHD Mini should be the same.
Once removed, inspect FRM and connectors for signs of water intrusion and corroded connector pins. Have you already inspected for water intrusion around the JBE behind the right-side kick panel?

Was hopeful, briefly. My FRM wasn't tossing any issues. Back to every drove now...
Got my first ECS bits to start fixing things, once I get a check from selling my Explorer, a new top & FRM are top of the list. Unless the recall gets expanded & it gets covered.

I got a recall notice for the FWM
on my 2009 Clubman a year or
so ago but the recall was not
ready to implement yet.
I got another notification a few
months ago that clearly said the
recall was now available and that I should call my MINI dealer ASAP to schedule.
I did so and they told me the recall was still not available
and they had no idea of when
it would be.
