Electrical OBD 2 Bluetooth Error Code Scanner Tool + "Torque"
OBD 2 Bluetooth Error Code Scanner Tool + "Torque"
I've had to check error codes, make repairs, clear codes, and wait for "readyness" of emission testing. Here's the scoop on a pretty sweet tool.
1. I bought the Mini ELM327 OBDII OBD-II OBD2 Interface Bluetooth V1.5 Auto Diagnostic Scanner from Newegg ($21 with free shipping on sale from $30). I saw plenty of threads and links for different ELM 327 suppliers. I have come to trust Newegg and went with them. (There are other bluetooth devices there at Newegg.)
2. I grabbed "Torque" off the Google Play market ($5) and installed it on my android based phone (Samsung Galaxy S3 if you're dying to know).
3. After turning on bluetooth on my phone, I paired the device called "CHX" with the secret code 6789. (Note, I had to google for the code as the ELM 327 device doesn't show the code.)
4. It was easy to see codes, clear codes, and check out my "readyness".

I'm loving Torque. So nice to see live data. Check out their site here.
So I spent $26 on a killer scanner tool.
Note: I had good luck with the local O'Reilly auto parts store. They let me use their scanner in exchange for my ID. That would be an even cheaper option, yet I'm interested in having a scanner around my garage--even on my trips!
