Success! I have the Porsche switch mounted in front of the ignition switch on the steering column trim and wired in so the BC1 is completely bypassed for the headlight washers. I can switch them on whenever I'd like now. Very cool feature and in my opinion, it should have just come like this from the factory.

I'll probably do a write-up of this since I think there may be some interest in this mod for anyone with headlight washers.

Headlight washer switch

Really interested in this thread. I'm just installing an I/c spray on my r53 GP using a headlight washer tank and pump. I'm following the wiring guide, but need to add a manual switch for operation.
Are you running 12v to the Porsche switch going to BL 12/1 ?
Have you got a part no. for the relay ? ( The relay I've got from 2003 r53 , no.61.36-873700, doesn't fit my fuse box)
Thanks

The wiring and relay did change for later year cars or very early 2002 year cars. Do you have the month/year production date for your MINI? I can check the wiring to make sure it will be the same for you as what I've described above.

The wire connected to the BL 12/1 fuesbox connector is the 12v feed, and the switch completes the circuit to ground, so the other wire out of the switch just needs to go to ground.

Headlight washer switch etc..

Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply.
I thought the wire (switched), going to BL12/1 was live(to switch the relay), and the wire to WS6/1was the 12v feed to pump.( I could be wrong,)
My GP build date was 07/2006. I've just ordered relay part no. 61361472984, hope it fits/works. The pins look right and the fuse box on realoem. is the same as mine,( only 2 relay slots),so hopefully will work.
It's all about trial and error at present, because the high pressure pump fits the tank well, but is possibly too powerful, and the standard windscreen washer pump doesn't really fit the tank at the moment.

09/2005 and Later Wiring

Alright, I just looked at the wiring diagrams, and they changed the wiring and fusebox design for 09/2005 and later.

The new relay you ordered should work for your MINI.

For the other wiring, you'll need to attach one end of your switch to pin 9 on the 12-pin blue connector (this is different from mine!). The other end of your switch needs to go to ground.

The power to the pump is the same. Pin 1 on the white 6-pin connector supplies the relay-switched 12v to the pump.

Unfortunately, my connectors didn't fit the rear of the fuse box.
New spade connectors on the way !

So, picked up a couple of pin connectors from BMW, BL 12/9 connected to earthed switch, no problems but I couldn't get a pin connector to fit the ( 4.8mm?) WH 6/1 plug. BMW parts dept. didn't know which connector would fit the white plug. Have ordered a few random connectors which may/may not fit, without modification. Gradually getting there....

Same thing happened to me. That WH 6/1 connector must be a rarely used one. I had a sniped wire with the right connector that I was hoping to get a few more of for a cleaner install, but when I showed my local dealer, they didn't have that one either.

I might be wiring in the the rear power socket tonight and I'll take another look at that connector while I have the fusebox out if I do. Sometimes the numbers on the connector itself can give you a clue as to what terminal to use.

Great to hear!

Do you happen to have the part number for the pin that worked for the white 6-pin connector?

I looked at the connector and its marked "TYCO B1006-Y221" and "BMW 8 378 102", but neither of those turned up useful info. related to the pins. It seems to be a less commonly used type.

I used a 4.8mm female blade terminal with locking tab.
https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/non-insulated-female-blade-crimp-terminal.html
i had to trim down the relevant "holding tab" on the white plug ,and the new connector now fits perfectly.
Thanks again.

Ah, okay. Impressive work getting a non-OEM connector to fit in. Glad to hear it all worked out.
