do the stock radios have an "antenna plug"?

so, i removed the dumb looking antenna bulb on my Cooper, and put on a fake shark fin instead

problem now is, of course, my radio reception is garbage (not that theres a whole lot to listen to where i live anyway, but still).

i found this neat little number on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Glass-Window...item4ab8fc1e57

and, was wondering if anyones been back behind the stock head unit and seen a plug for such antenna add ons / replacements?

Thanks for the help!

Yes they do and that won't work without modification.

The antenna that you are looking at buying. You will need to clip that end off and change the plug to fit the MINI radio.

Yep, but then you need an adapter for the two regular plugs.

Both of those have a male end so you will either need to cut and solder or find an adapter to make a female end on one of them.

When I ripped out the stock stereo and replaced it with a Sony deck I was really stumped with the Mini's antenna plug, I tried an adapter and the reception was terrible. Maybe it was just the Sony deck that had the terrible reception, but I tried a few options and nothing worked. I don't listen to the radio at all, I have an old ipod connected 24/7, if I ever really need the radio I have a radio app on my phone that I connect via bluetooth.

I also removed the 16" antenna and got a 3-4" stubby, still looks clean.

The OE MINI antenna needs power to work from the HU.
Change the HU, no power to antenna, no signal.
Simples.
