Digital Speedometer R53

Looked through the forum but couldn't find this so I thought I would share it. I coded the digital speedometer on for a 2004 Cooper S. I used NCS Expert and the option was in the KMB module. The string is below, just set it to aktiv.

BC_GESCHW_ANZEIGE_DIGITAL

Not too sure, the 2004 I coded did not. It was the first R53 that I coded but all of the R56's I've coded have a digital speedo (which I believe comes that way from the factory). I thought I read somewhere that 2004 and earlier Mini's don't have it (from the factory).

That's correct. Pre-facelift 1st gens do not have digital speedo. Why do you need it? You see that big thing in the center of the dash?

Is there any way to enable instant MPG readout?? The post-facelift cars I think also had an Instant MPG in the computer settings in addition to the Avg MPG. That would be nice.

That is the trip computer functionality...
Seperate module on early cars, part of the computer that just has to be activated on later...not sure the dates.

Not sure when pre-facelift 1st gens started, but I have a 2004 MCS (11/03 build date) that has a digital speedo as part of the display on the tach. I can switch between that, outside air temp, current mpg, avg mpg, and dist to empty.

Pre-facelift = pre 2005 model year car...
There was about a 3 moth phase in...
Some early 2005 my, late 2004 production got the mechanical upgrades, but not things like the troublesome 2 stage airbags with weight sensors in the seat that fail.....those changes started based up froduction date jan 2005 cars....along with the minor interior changes that went with it.

My '04 MCS was built for me in late February/early March of 2004, delivered to me at my dealer in Buffalo NY on 3/29/04.

Mine has the digital speedo/temp/mpg/average mpg/distance to empty as well.

So wait. Does that mean my 04 that displays the digital speed and outside temp can also display the mpg figures?

I guess it's personal preference. I don't have a MINI myself so I cannot answer that.

There should be a setting for it, you would just have to look through the KMB module. When I get around to doing some more testing on R53's I can report back.

Wouldn't know for sure but it seems like there is a possibility. If the string is in the module then it can easily be activated.

I'd be interested in knowing that too. The OBC display would be much more convenient than my ScanGauge.

What Year is your car? I tried doing it on a 2006 R53 and couldn't access the module at all (was able to access all other modules but not this one - KMB).

Another thing I noticed was that the owner was not able to open the windows with his keyfob but I was able to code it to close the windows with the keyfob. The string for opening windows was not in the BC1 module (where it should be located) and I did not see it in the Car/Key Settings.

Anyone else not able to open the windows with their keyfob?

Ah geez, a little late on my response– shoulda checked back.
I have an 03 R53, with the OBC. But no MPH readout. I dont mind it, but if a friend borrows the car, the center speedo takes a little getting used to.

Do you have the coding cables and software. If you do, tap into the car and see if you can activate it. I can walk you through it if need be.

I have an 03' made in June.. I didnt have the the stalk with the button so i got a used one and bought the wiring and did the retrofit myself.
I used BMW DIS which i have at home, and re-coded the car to enable the OBC function. However, i dont have the instant consumption or the digital speed on the tacho. I have the range, average speed, average consupmtion, temperature.. in my previous r50 i had the digital speed and outside temperature, but none of the other features.
Yesterday, i used BMW DIS to code the daytime running lights, comfort opening closing, selective lockin etc..
Everything works great, except the comfort closing with the key remote. I can open the sunroof and the windows would go down all the way, but i just cant seem to figure out why its not able to close the windows and the sunroof?
The feature was previously set to trunk opening, when holding the unlock button long enough, it would open the trunk door..
Any suggestions for the windows, sunroof closing with remote? and the digital speed and instant consumption?
I do have NCS Expert but never used it.. i know theres tons of guides, its just i didnt find the R50 laden.bat in the folder and from that point i stopped and didnt do anything..

I have 04/04 MCS it has digital speed and temperature only.

Can you post the contents of your KMB module so i can compare to mine.

You will have to code in the digital speedometer and the Windows Closing using NCS Expert. Instant MPG may not be possible, but I would not know for sure until I saw your KMB module or another member's R53 KMB module.

I will try and do this today when i come back home. I will read it out and post it here.
Can someone tell me about the R50Laden. bat ? did the R56 laden.bat work when you renamed the R56 strings to R50?
Will it work even without the R50 laden.bat?

thanks in advance
