OBDII to Bluetooth

Anyone familiar with any OBDII to Bluetooth devices such as this one that PLX makes?

http://www.plxdevices.com/product_in...=GSSTBLUETOOTH

$100 seems like a good price to get a digital boost gauge, AFRs, etc. Plus a code reader.

Opinions welcome!

I got one of the $15-from-china-pieces-of-junk. And you get prettymuch exactly what you pay for. It's fairly big, and sticks straight out into where your left leg wants to be when your foot is on the dead pedal.

Coincidentally it stopped working today. For $15 I'm not too fussed, but I'll probably be looking into one of the more expensive options to replace it.

Ebay might be a better option in general for getting one too; and I highly recommend the Torque app for android. $5, well supported, well recommended, does everything the other software does and more for a fraction the price. Their website lists a few alternate bluetooth adapters (and a nice warning against the ebay junk).

I have bought three of the cheap adapters from Ebay (2 for friends) and all of them worked.

The Torque app is amazing. The Iphone app only work with Wifi. The Wifi adapter cost a bit more.

Looks like it has a lot of 5 star reviews on amazon. It's also $88.xx at amazon. I put this on my wishlist. Car is running fine and I have other items I want to purchase atm.

I bought an OBDII to bluetooth one on ebay last night, less than $20 shipped. I'll post a link when I get home.

So let me get this straight. You guys have my attention. This is exactly what I have been looking for since I bought the car in 2009. With this adaptor and then I go to the android app store to get the Torque app? or is it at a specific website? Also I saw a page of them on ebay and they all look basically the same. The one in the first post has a cable so I guess it does not interfere with your leg (correct?) but you can use any adaptor with those list of apps that it appears you have to buy separately anyway, correct? The burning question is then has anyone seen one with a cable on ebay?

next question what do you recommend to hold the smartphone up near the tach?

I'm not sure, but the one with a cable on ebay looked like it had a usb end to plug into your computer, not a bluetooth adapter. This is the one I bought.

You can get a flexpod phone mounting kit, but they're not cheap - Not sure what other options are out there.

Doesn't list Mini as being a compatible vehicle in the ad.

I can't understand what they're saying in this video, but they're using the ELM 327 (that ebay bluetooth adapter) on an R56.

All cars sold since 1996 in North America has an OBDII port. To get an idea of what you can see with Torque see this page:

I just got this one on ebay in the mail yesterday, and I'm using the free Torque app on my Samsung Galaxy - It seems to work well. I haven't had any trouble with it falling off, it does hang down a bit but not enough to bother me. For $15, I'm pleased with it.

I have PLXDevices KIWI Wifi, and wifi wireless OBDII connector that works with my Ipad and iphone using Plamer Performance Dash Command and another app called REV. They are neat. The only reason to get the bluetooth version is if you have an android phone. To mount the phone, use a dashboard mount from brodit. PLXDevices makes great quality products, mine works well, no issues. And you do get exactly what you pay for when you buy something like an OBDII cable.

REV for iPhone and iPad.

know a few people that like it and enjoy its use.

it does not have all the addons that Torque can have for it but it does all the basics for you as well as nice tracking features.

Here is a link to the apps features page. http://www.devtoaster.com/products/rev/

So does anyone have any other input on this unit? I found someone on craigslist who is selling for $60. I'm going to pick it up tonight. I want to see how close this comes to my dyno numbers i just posted from last Sunday.

I have the PLX Kiwi WiFi and DashCommand on my iPhone. When synching isn't giving me fits, it's pretty informative. But, I think I overpaid for what I'm getting. The solution is far from elegant.

I bought a cheap adapter (elm 327) off amazon. I am using Torque on my Galaxy Nexus. They work flawless, I don't have any syncing or connection errors as others have reported poor results from the knock off adapters. Very handy tool as I have used it on a few other vehicles. It would be nice to find some custom PID'S to see what other sensors are being pulled.

Custom PIDs

The manufacturers keep the custom PIDs to themselves. I could not find any for the Mini. If anyone find some please share!

Just to let everyone know, Outmotoring is selling the ELM327 in their online store, for $59.95. Do NOT buy it there - I got mine for less than $15.00 shipped, brand new from a store on eBay, and it works great. I'd be pretty peeved if I spent over 3x the price for it, and I hope nobody else does.

Glad to hear the CHEAP one is working for you but not all the cheap ones work. I have had a few of the $15 ones and ended up spending more in the long run as the $15 ones did not work and ended up purchasing a $60 one from Craven Speed and it has worked perfectly.

Please dont bash the vendors here for making sure that what they sell is of the best quality and will work for everyone.

Sorry, I don't mean to 'bash' the vendor, I purchased from them before and I was completely satisfied with their service; however, the ELM 327 module pictured on their site appears identical to the one that I have.
