Crimp Pin Connections

does anyone know a good source to get the Square female crimp pins that are used in a majority of the Mini wiring harnesses?

Specifically i'm looking for the micro ones and the larger ones, not sure if there are other sizes.

Don't know if this particular series is one of them but TYCO usually has agreements with the major auto manufacturers to limit the distribution of proprietary connectors. In addition, they require special tools to make reliable crimps for the various wire ranges.

DB here is a pin out of the connector. http://wds.spaghetticoder.org/en/zinfo/R50_PA18A.htm

And it looks like it's a 42 Pin connector mixed with spade and crimp pin style. finding a connector like that might be a little bit of a pain.

@NC_Trackrat, I actually found another company that has similar crimp pin's that might work. I just got them in the mail this week and need to dissect one of my wiring harnesses to see if they will work yet. from everything i'm reading most of these pins are pretty standard sizes, nothing unusual.

If interested check out Jameco electronics, they have a wide range of connections.

Excellent info.....Now that I have the interior panels out of my 2004 Mini (sorry, not an S) I was able to disconnect the amplifier and "actually" read the numbers off of the connector. The connector is an AMP p/n 2-967385-1 42position MCP lever lock. This part number valid according to Tyco, however, since it has BMW molded in the back shell, I'll bet BMW also owns all of the rights to it. It seems to cross reference with another p/n: ABDECKKAPPE 42P, according to the Tyco (TE) web site. I will talk with my local Amp representative on Monday. I guess what we all would want is a connector that will made directly to the cars wire harness (which is where I found the p/n: 2-967385-1). I could cut the connector off and replace it with something that is easy to get. It just seems that finding the proper connector to connect to the OEM wire harness is the "RIGHT" way to go about it.

If I get anything I will post it here.

Did you have to remove the lower foot well trim on the passenger side, or drivers side at all?

The side panels do not extend behind the lower molding. There are a lot of clips on the backside of the trim panels that require you to take your time. I guess that the hardest part was to get all of the clips loose BEFORE attempting to pull the panel forward off of the outboard upper seat latches. The only thing that was a bit tricky was removing the rear seat back. There was a roll-pin through the pivot shaft that had to be sneaked out through a slot in the outboard hinge bracket.

I left a message for my Tyco rep regarding the terminals and connector. Did you want the pins (like in the amplifier) or the sockets (like in the wire harness connector)?

Let me know, i need about 5 pins total. I need to just plug into the general module, and the fuse box so i can retro fit my car with fog lamps to the stock specs.

Do you need pins or sockets??
There are two different sizes as well. The smaller size is square"ISH" and the larger is more of a flat tab.

I talked with the Tyco rep and the connector is definitely "restricted" and he doesn't think that he can get me a single one. The mate (the one that is made into the amplifier) is only available as a board mount....and yes, it is restricted as well. The rep will be stopping by on Thursday. I will let you know if he comes bearing any gifts!

Sounds good to me, and it looks like i'll need the socket style. The flatter, non square ones.

From the diagrams, the General Module on the right hand side of the car, and the fuse box in the engine compartment look like the same ones.

I have two different size square ones for the switch panel, so that i'm good with.

I just read up ^^ there what you are trying to do. My advice... Check ebay for a used amplifier for cheap. It looks like the amp that was used in the mini might have also been used in a few BMW's and Land Rovers.

OK.....I gots me lots-O-terminals. Do you have any pics of the connector or terminal? Can you measure the width? Pins? Sockets? Quantity?

As far as my car, I cannot get either connector for the amplifier. Both sides are "restricted" by BMW. My only choice is to cut off the connector and splice on what I want.

I'll try to see what i can get for you tomorrow. i'm going to have dissect part of my car to get that information and bust out the caliper to measure them.

I can give you the exact plugs i'm trying to fit them if that helps at all.

Absolutely! They have several terminals that are nearly identical but not interchangeable.

Well with regards to the plugs:
1 - X255
1 - X254
1 - X4013
1 - X4010
2 - X4014

The ones for X4013, X4010, and X4014 i believe are all the same, but not sure.

I"ll pull them all out tomorrow and see if i can get the measurements. Need to figure out how to pull the passenger wheel well trim off so i can get to the module where X254 and X255 are.

Sorry DB, been busy with work items this week, i do have a picture of the connector though. And i believe it's a 1MM wide based on the information i'm finding from the Parts guide.

I did an order from Jameco a while back and was able to get my small pins to fit for plugs X254, and X255. So now it's just the ones that plug into the fuse box under the bonnet.

I am assuming that the "X" numbers are the connector numbers. Which manual are you using and where did you get it? I always get mine from Helm on line, but they do not carry the Mini....
