Outlaw pushbutton-start?

Shall we outlaw pushbutton-start on cars? (*)

It seems a few people have died of carbon monoxide poisoning when they didn't realize their engines were still running.

I say this is a case of natural selection, and we should leave it alone, since the phenomenon is self-limiting

I cannot believe this, how are they dying, sleeping above the garage while the car runs?

Personally my hearing is good enough that I "hear" the engine shut down. I know my Mini is pretty quiet while idling, but still, I'd hear it running before I left my garage...wierd...are people THAT distracted?!

If you can't tell your engine is running you'd best park it and walk.

Wow. That's a new low for humankind.

I mean, even if you can't hear the engine (not sure if you should be driving anyway in this case), you can still see that the tachometer is above zero.

How about remove all automatics? That would help reduce that too. The car is either rocketing through the wall or rolling into the door.

I've heard that people die in car wrecks too.

Just watch, some annoying warning sound will be mandated, where you have to push yet another button before pushing the start button. Or maybe punch in a combination like a security code.

I suspect that if they aren't smart enough to figure out how to turn their car off, they are not smart enough to know what a tachometer is or what it means when the needle is above zero.
