Electrical Secondary footwell lighting + switched 12V source!
Secondary footwell lighting + switched 12V source!
So, I wanted a little colored lighting under the dash above both of the front footwells. I like a little ambiance for my night driving, and wanted to compliment the stock interior accent lights.
I got some cheap 3M adhesive SMD strips off of fleabay, ran the wires through the underside of the dashboard, and connected them to the only switched fuse I could find - F35.
I bought a mini "add a circuit" from Advance Auto, then got an extra 5A fuse to protect the extra circuit for the lights.
The end result is really sweet, but hard to catch on camera. They only turn on when you have the ignition switch on, and have a nice gentle glow. I used a tiny dot of superglue on each end to make sure they wouldn't peel as temperatures fluctuated.

I have mine the same way but used a circuit that is on only when the car is on. I was going to run a switch to it to turn them on and off because at night it can be distracting. I have a good switch but I relly don't want to drill anything.
Why not use an inline switch?
Is that fuse box on the right or left side? Just to be sure you said F35 is a switched 12V source.... Wana use that for an aftermarket driving light set up with my our rocker switch installed on the left side of the dash.
thats on the passenger side. also, it is only "on" when the engine is running. so when the engine is not running, there is no current through that fuse
I have a switch but I don't know where to mount it or want to drill a hole. I was thinking about ordering a wireless kit from http://autolumination.com/remote.html

I had switches which I thought were in the perfect spot. Right between your leg and the shifter on the side of the center console. There's quite a bit of room to run the wires and switches too.

I am willing to be the factory dimmer is not like dimmers of old that are an actual potentiometer, but rather control the power output of the BCM or similar. So I highly doubt it would be as easy as tapping into a wire, might be but good luck.
I just picked up the lighted LEDs stripes at the store, also picked up a 4 plug adaptor that has 4 built in blue LEDs, mounted it behind the cig lighter, took me about 15 minutes to wire it up, and get the lights in the right spot, I now have deep blue lights in both footwells, pictures in my gallery
I have 3 new POTs and was thinking of using one to run the dimmer for these but wanted feedback if OEM dimmer could be used. I bought 500 blue LEDs to make light bars to mount under the foot panels and seats without drilling holes. Now to find some flat plastic stock to mount the lights to.
