have n 06 MCS and have the rubber plug in the center of the rar bumper. I pulled it out and there is a connection behind it for a light, it was taped to the frame obviously because the car didnt come with the option. question is can i install the light fixture and just plug it iinto the exisiting harness? what else do I need?
You'll also need a toggle rack with the appropriate toggle, and to have the dealer program the BCM so that it recognizes the fog light.
Yep
You'll need the toggle bank and the actual light. I got mine toggle bank and light from Outmotoring.com. Your looking at about an hour of labor to get the BCM coded for the light. BTW the rear fog is great for tail gaters.
is it possible to just buy a new toggle bank cover and 1 togle switch lever to snap into the old toggle bank
Not that I know of. You could buy just a toggle and drill the cover - that has been done before for aesthetic reasons. Not positive that would actuate the light, but it should. Downside of that is that you don't get the lighted toggle telling you the rear fog is on, nor the graphic telling you what the toggle is for.
If you can source a toggle and money is tight, you can give it a try. If it doesn't work, then get the full toggle rack.
You could always buy the light and a kit to make it function as an additional brake light... That's what I did as I found the toggle switch panel to be too expensive. http://www.gominigo.com/BLK-MINI.html
Single toggle levers are not available for purchase separately. You can buy a cheap used switch bank off eBay (it probably won't have the full set of 6 toggles) and transfer one of the toggle levers over. There's a thread somewhere describing how to do it.
