Electrical installing the iPod connect option
installing the iPod connect option
The auxiliary option is ok when wanting to connect an ipod, but it just sucks not to be able to handle the ipod through the steering wheel or the song list through the mp3 panel display. I was thinking of trying to install the ipad kit on my own cause it will cost fortune to do this through the dealer. Canit be done and how?

Head over to the NAV & Audio section and you can find a lot more info on it
If you can take the dash apart easily it'll be no problem. Im only 16 and i did it lol. After the install however, it will not play unless you get it retrofitted which i *think* the dealer charges an hour labor for.. but i took it to a BMW mechanic and it was a little bit cheaper.
Once you disassemble the necessary parts of the dash, and remove the hidden glove box youll see a cable attached to the back. This is the CD changer plug youll use for the interface.
You attach the interface to the new hidden glove box that was included in the kit and you just need to release the CD changer plug, remove the shorting plug and attach the USB and put the dash back together.
As for the retrofit, it needs to be plugged in the SSS and programmed.
