2002 MCS Cooling fan staying on

Well, Im new to NAM, and have found some threads on this... but cant tell if im experiencing the same things or not.

Problem: Occassionaly when turning the car off (with fan already on OR NOT) the fan will either stay on, or turn on and continue to run until the battery dies. I have to pull the relay to shut it off. The first time I got pissed and punched the front of the radiator, and the fan turned off... but this doesn't work anymore.

Also... I've never heard a "low" speed fan since i bought it a year ago? The only fan i've heard is really loud. Maybe a problem or Im just stupid and haven't heard it.

Someone somewhere said that the 02's maybe have a replaceable relay? Is this true and could it fix my problem? or should I dig into the full replacement?
PLEASE HELP!

Not sure about the relay, but what I suggest is to purchase a new fan for your MINI altogether. Low speed fan is really important for our cars, period. And judging by the age of your car (same as mine), it's about time to change it anyways.

On mine, it does that sometimes but it stays on for about two or three minutes, but at first I was worried that it will not turn off so I kept walking into the car again and turn the ignition key up to 2nd position (prior to ignition) and the Fan would shut down even after I took the key out. But now I just let the fan do it's work and shut down by itself.

By any chance, have you experienced problems with your Air Conditioning not cooling at all?

From what I've been reading, faulty low speed fan means faulty A/C and even faulty Power Steering.

Cheers!

I have an '03 R53 with 55,600k and it also does this. My fan is really loud. Im always afraid the battery will die, so I just put the key in 2nd position, it turns off, wait ten seconds, then remove the key. Usually if i don't wait, the fan will start back up when the key is removed.

Thank you for the info on the fan. I suppose i will look into finding a replacement. Any thoughts? RockAuto? Amazon has one too but who knows what you'll get with them.
As to the A/C question, I haven't experienced any lack of cooling that im aware of but i rarely use the A/C.... and right now it is 10F ouside, so it would be tough to test it i think.
