For those of you that have factory installed fog lamps: if you have the fog lamps turned on, do they stay on when you switch to high beams? I looked in the owners manual but It isn't really clear.

 

On my 1st gen R53, fogs go off with high beams. Kinda silly since nobody else is around if I have my high beams on...

There's a DOT reg thou shalt have only 4 illuminated devices and fogs would be six technically. So I think that's why. Dumb.

How about the 2nd generation fog lamps, do they stay on when you hit the brights? I was about to wire up my recently installed oem fog lights and was considering wiring them so they stay on with the brights. I can use the switch for my Hella driving lights and let the switch do double duty illuminating the fog lights when the low beams are on and illuminating both sets of lights when the high beams are on.....saves me the hassle of tearing apart the dash again to install a 2nd switch.

 

Yes as stated above, no car sold in the US can have the fog lights and high beams lit at the same time.

The lighting module can be reprogrammed to allow it (as it is legal in other countries), but it is a lot of expense and a lot of work setting it up (look at my Windows and Sunroof closing thread for more info).

 

I wired my lights using the single Hella driving light switch to turn the fogs on and off. When the switch is on the fogs work when the low beams are on and the driving lights come on with the high beams. The fogs do not illuminate when the driving lights are on.

 

If your laws are similar to ours in Canada (which 90% are). you also can not have the Driving lights on while the low beams are on. (ie fog lights or driving lights and never both, depending on high and low beams).

 

I checked this the other evening.

I can have my fogs on at the same time as my headlights, both low (duh)
as well as high beams.

They do not turn off when the high beam is turned on.
