That's BS. If you hit a bump at high speed hard enough to break a headlamp, then you'd for sure have a bent rim or damaged tire.

On the bright side, if they still refuse, get them to write it in the invoice that is the problem.

Then you can go to your insurance company and have it covered under comprehensive. (low deductible, no increase in insurance premiums)

BLUF, check the elevation sensors and wires.

When I got Donkey within the break in Period he started leaking transmission oil (follow with me there is a reason I am posting this) BMW pulled the engine and transmission and fixed it.. (here comes the important part) about 2 months later I could only see about 30ft in front of the car and realized my auto leveling was no longer working. I read about the suspension sensor (drivers side wishbone and passenger side rear wishbones) could go out. I lifted up the front and found that the sensor wire had snagged the drive shaft on the drivers side and pulled the wires apart. Why did this happen? BMW did not secure the wire properly when they reinstalled the engine. Instead of loosing the car for 2-3 days for them to solder the wired together I did it myself. Took about 30 minutes to retrace to the spot were the wires were in good condition, add the proper length of replacement wire and solder and heat shrink and cable tie them safe and secure. No more Headlight issues.

Both of my Xenon headlights are cracking (08 R56). The dealer said it's from abuse and they've never seen it before. Check you headlight housing

Report to NHTSA?

If they seriously said this, consider reporting the situation to NHTSA as a defect. You should be able to do it online. Who knows if it will do anything (besides venting), but I doubt the manufacturers wants that stuff in the database--good lawyer "shark" food. And w/ enough reports of overlapping issues they sometimes open an investigation. (Hello Toyota...) Headlights should be able to take any normal road vibrations. Xenons were scrutinized too for perceived issues about glare and over brightness. Those same concerns led to the general requirement for auto leveling on xenons. If the system craps out, that means a basic safety system is broken for the driver (the headlight aiming), but also for oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.

Make sure by the way the basic sensor that provides the key input to the system is in place on the car's suspension arms--if they are dislodged or broken, autoleveling won't work right. If both headlights autoleveling are kaputt, that's a clue to look at issues like this. If just one, then likely in the mechanical parts of the headlight leveling itself.
