Lots of filling and soldering i made it!

Seriously, I should have taken pics along the way. However, I had to gring the key to fit into the switch key fob. Grinding it the same to fit the roll pin into the keyway. Then moving to the eltronics. You need to grind the control board to size which actually messes up a few of the contacts. I had to re bridge the contacts. The actual buttons had to be desoldered and moved to functional locations and resoldered to the control board. Once that was done I had to modify the battery termanials for height, making it all fit required a lot of butchering of the VW fob but the end result is awesome! Any questions let me know.

Wow - very cool. I'd love one of those. Why have more manufacturers not copied this design? Not only does it make a key that doesn't threaten one's manhood, but it's cool!

Here's a project: take the 2nd gen UFO saucer, and make a key blade fly out of that!

OK, I've got questions... I've looked at ebay for a case, but no luck. They all want to include the ignition. What was the search you used? If I could find one, I might just attempt this.

The 2nd Gen disc has a key inside it. Just pull the nub that sticks out, and out pops a key.

Just know that in order to fit the contol board into the case it require grinding off some contacts. You'll need to re jump them. And desolder the buttons and glue them to the correct spots. Have fun

I bet there's a kit so VW drivers can have the MINI "UFO Saucer" look. The grass is always greener...

OK.. I'm still at step one... I got the roll pin out and the vw key is out. Time to start tearing down my key. Maybe I'll order a spare "Just in case". As for the grass being greener, that's not it for me. I typically only carry my car key and being able to just fold it and put it in my pocket without getting stabbed in the... or poking a hole in yet another pair of pants pockets would make me happy. Now if they could just make one of those viper 5902 remote starter/alarm fobs with my key in it like this that flips out... ahhhh

I'm lazy... I press the button on my rear view to open the garage. If that doesn't work, I know where the key to the door is hiding in the yard.

Typically I only carry my car key when I'm out.
