ElectricalFor discussions regarding wiring up electrical modifications such as radar detectors, brake light mods, power sockets, and driving lights in Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I've been playing around and helping many NAMers convert from halogen to OEM HID with great success for the last couple years. We have narrowed what combinations of Coopers accept OEM Xenons without a dealer CPU flash.
The big question is: Will an 02-04 Cooper with OEM xenons be able to run 05+ (facelift xenons) plug and play without going to a dealership to get the CPU flashed. It seems like this question comes up a lot, and as soon as the NAMer figures out the answer they neglect to share the results. I've searched and found one example of this combo working, but many many people asking.
We have concluded that:
02-04 cooper w/ hals ----> 02-04 xenons ***YES (no flash required)
02-04 cooper w/ xenons ----> 05+ xenons ***YES (no flash required)
02-04 cooper w/ hals ----> 05+ xenons ****NO (flash required)
05+ cooper w/ hals ----> 05+ xenons ****NO (flash required)
We're a little unsure of the results from an 02-04 w/ xenons ---> 05+ xenons. Can anyone give us some FIRST HAND knowledge only please? If you've had success please list what year your car is, if it came with factory xenon, what year xenons you swapped for, and finally if it was plug and play or required a trip to the dealership.
Hi,
I want to retrofit 04 Xenons to my 06 Cooper S because they have the usual strobing issue. I haven't been able to find a concrete answer to my question.
Do you know how to make these work on my Mini??
I recently purchased 2004 r53 MC40 with factory xenons. I ordered a pair of 05+ factory xenons from an eBay automotive recycling yard and installed them without issue. Plug and Play!

I'll bump with what I found. I used factory HID's from an 06 for my R50. All I had to do was solder in a capacitor to the brown and yellow wires. No flash was needed.

all it requires is a config change using ncs. The pwm needs to be 100% to stop the flickering. No soldering needed.
