Cool grill mod idea, can it be done?/how?

I have a neat idea for a grill lighting mod... I dont know if its possible but I would like to try. I want to fit some led's into the hoodscoop/grill area... but heres the catch.. for certain rpms I would like it to brighten and then go back to idle brightness. IE: Revving your engine causes it to light up really fast and then dim. Can it be done? how? thanks!

Generally LED's are either on or off. It is pretty tough to dim them. How about as the throttle position is increased more LED's come on? That would be a little easier to do.

This is a cool idea. I'm not sure about the signals that would have to be tapped, but once you get the RPM data, you could use a microcontroller to output a PWM signal to change the LED intensity based on that RPM.

It might be easier to actually add your own sensor to the engine than to hack into the electronics.

No, not true. LED's are actually analog devices and their brightness varies by amount of current they are supplied. If you replace one of your interior lights with an LED replacement bulb, you'll find that it fades on and off just like the original filament bulb.

Yes, you can vary the brightness of LED's by runing them on A/C and varying amount of time they are on vers the time they are off during the cycle time. They call this a duty cycle. More info if needed...
