Mystery Dash Issues

I feel stupid after realizing the cause but the symptoms did not add up. I felt someone else may run into the same issue so I am hoping to save them some time....

The issue first showed up when I was stopped and putting my car into reverse to back into the garage. As I released the clutch my dashboard blinked- everything went dark and then came back up, including my Radar Detector. I had a WTF but it didn't happen again for several days. Same thing, reverse releasing the clutch. Then it happened while I was at a light, releasing the clutch. Nothing happened when starting the car and driving on the hwy and around town was fine... it was intermittent and always when stopped when releasing the clutch.

I pulled the add-a-fuse that my RD was connected to... everything was fine for a few days and then it was back... same thing.

I opened up the dash and could not find a single wire or ground issue.

Then it happened again, we were rushing our dog to the emergency vet at 4 AM and when I opened the door, the dash reset... then on unlock, then on window down... Took care of the dog and when I started the car the DSC light was on and the switch would not respond.... so when I got home I pulled IAN's circuit and got my battery checked... the battery was good and symptoms went away for 5 days... so I wrote Ian (he is awesome and offerred to test the unit and repair if necessary)... the day I was going to the post office to ship it I had the same issues.... I was baffled!

On my way home I needed to swing by the store, when I went to restart the car I had the DSC light. I turned off the car and when I tried to restart the car I had nothing. No clicking, no dash lights... IT WAS DEAD (of course I am thinking that this would figure since I was just out of warrenty)!!!!

So I open the door and no window drop or interior lights! AhAAAAAAAA!

I check the power cables up front and everything is good, I check the positive cables on the battery and it looks good.... all that is left is the negative terminal... it looks torqued a little and as I touch it lightly is moves freely until it meets resitance when the interior lights come back on! Yep, that was it!

Ok, I am not thrilled with the negative battery connector, it does not seem to have the ability to tighten the clamp enough. I have fixed it and left it stock but I suspect I will need to replace the clamp someday...

I hope this helps anyone else who ends up with gremlins in their dash.

Pull the Neg. cable and trim the fitting to fit the post and retighten, shouldn't have to buy new unless broken or corroded. Could be battery post is smaller due to age ( metal shrinking?)
