My dad has on 04 MCS with the on board controler. Today he told me that his average speed setting has been stuck on 0.1 MPH for a while now. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? Or does it just need to be reset by holding down the button? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I've been silently wondering about this myself. After two years of driving, I check out my Average Speed on the OBC and it read something like 1.7 mph. Its been slowly increasing now over time, but I have a hard time believing that parking time is included in the calculation.

 

When you have that (Ave Speed)display up hold the button on the stalk down to reset it. Mine was stuck and that cleared it and it started working again.

 

The cars could only count to a certain number of miles (between 5K and 10K?); after that the averages (speed and mpg) get screwy.
As ChiliRedS suggested, reset and they'll start from scratch again, working properly (for a while, at least!)

 

As long as the car is on, it counts that inot the average. I have sat and watched it go down after resetting it, and just sitting in park.
