Installing fog lights

My MC did not come with fog lights. Electrical work is not my forte. I'm considering adding the fog lights, and I see a number of them on e-bay. My question is around wiring. If I buy a set, do I have to wire all the way to the dash where the switches are? or is the car pre-wired and all I need is a harness to pug into? What about the switch?

Any help is appreciated. I realize this might sound dumb, but the fact is I don't understand this.

Factory fogs or an aftermarket kit?

Both require adding a switch and connectiong to a power source, the OEM set has a little more wiring invloved and requires a trip to the dealer, but it keeps your warranty and IMO has a little cleaner look.

I've installed both OEM and aftermarket kits. Going to be at the CMMC holiday party?

PIAA makes a light kit that is complete - wiring harness, switch, relay and mini brackets. Its a nice DIY project.

You do have to run a wire from the switch (interior) to engine compartment and while it can be a pain it is not technically difficult.

1) The wiring harness is plenty long (excess is typically placed in the drivers side air vent area).
2) relay is often mounted to the left of the CAI box or in the drivers side vent area.
3) Taping power is off of the high beam wire.
4) Mounting the mini brackets requires drilling 4 small holes.

Sorry, I don't have pics but if you do a search you will find threads with good pics.

fogs or driving?

to be clear, r yuo wanting the fog - low and either side of lower grill, in the existing holes; or driving lites - on brackets thru the upper grill?

And having installed several sets, this requires a trip to the dealer because????

the wiring is not hard, but if you do something like the PIAA's, you
need to drill the metal bonnet a little on the inside for the brackets.

that might be a little nerve wrecking for some newbs.

very true - measure twice drill once. THE only thing to look out for is once you perferate the hole while drilling is not to have so much pressure on the drill as to hit the underside of the hood - there by giving yourself a little hood inverted divit.

don't ask how I know this !!!

And when drilling the bottom holes for the brackets, make sure the would-be hole has enough clearance from the vertical plastic brace to screw on the nut.:impatient
